from an organizer... "I am going to ask you to do one thing before Tuesday, and that is to start the geometric growth process a week ahead of time. I plan on asking everyone at every meeting to bring another person to the next meeting so we will double in size every week until Cheney/Bush Corp. is out of office. Instead of telling you that this Tuesday, I am asking you to bring a friend who is sympathetic to this cause and this movement. That shouldn't be that difficult as we all know dozens of citizens as concerned as we are with the state of our nation."
"Also: Bring any and all information, online links, discussion points, proposals for 'Action Steps' and anything else you think would be of help to each other...."
"One more thing: We are committed to peaceful, non-violent, legal, constitutionally-protected action steps focused on demanding that the current White House regime step down immediately. Anyone who wants to take action in any other way, please do not join this group. Violence and illegal activities would only lower us to the level of those we despise and would negate our every effort."
"Thank you. See most of you on Tuesday!"

World Can't Wait calls on everyone to get into the streets and PROTEST, demanding an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq.
Washington DC Wednesday March 19 1pm Lafayette Park across from the White House.
Join in acts of creative non-violent civil resistance!
1:30 p.m. in Lafayette Square Park join World Can't Wait and a sea of orange jumpsuits in solidarity with and representing those being tortured in Guantanamo Bay Prison, Abu Ghraib, Bagram in Afghanistan, and CIA “black sites” around the globe. A demonstration showing that waterboarding IS TORTURE, is planned directly in front of the residence of our biggest war criminal other than Dick Cheney.
The Park will become a rallying center for all those who are determined to put an end to this illegitimate and immoral occupation and demand justice by driving the war criminals from office now, not waiting for 2009! We are done with secret renditions, warrantless spying, lying to the public, using signing statements to disobey laws, rounding up immigrants and detaining them.
Our Spring Break Washington DC March 7-24th
This March, join a mass of students and youth for spring break in Washington, D.C. to end the war in Iraq.
We’ll have sit-ins, demonstrations, marches, rallies, protests… We’ll sing and dance… We’ll do Nonviolent Civil Resistance, we’ll do banner drops, we’ll do creative nonviolent direct action, and we’ll do everything in our power to bring an end to the war in Iraq, telling Congress, “Our spring break will break your war!”
STOP LOSS CONGRESS ACTION: MARCH 10 to 12, 2008 (Monday to Wednesday) in Washington,D.C: This March, while tens of thousands of Americans in Washington, D.C., and all over the United States participate in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience to protest the ongoing occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and when soldiers and innocent civilian victims begin another year of occupation, torture, and murder, Congressmembers will be on vacation (from the 15th to 30th, technically a "district work period"), ignoring the killing and suffering they have enabled, supported, and financed.
To intensify the irony, Congress has condoned a widespread stop-loss policy in the military which requires soldiers to involuntarily extend their tours and prolong the killing. It is time to Stop-Loss Congress!
On Monday March 10, and Tuesday March 11, we will deliver "official" stop-loss notices to all members of Congress in their Capitol Hill offices. These will notify them that all of their LEAVES, VACATIONS, PASSES and HOME VISITS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED until further notice. Just as active-duty personnel endure involuntary extensions of their tours of duty, we are notifying Congress that they, too, will have their "tours of duty" INVOLUNTARILY EXTENDED until every soldier and mercenary out of Iraq and home. When all the troops and contractors get home, then Congress can go home, and no sooner.
To sign the Stop Loss Order click here
On Wednesday March 12, we will take nonviolent action on Capitol Hill, to ensure that, while thousands of Iraqis, Afghanis, and foreign invaders die and are injured for life, the members of Congress and their staffs will not go home but remain to DO THEIR DUTY, and immediately end the funding of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. No member of Congress goes home until THE TROOPS COME HOME.

Impeach or Else Rally
Monday, March 17th, 2008 3pm St Paul Capitol Building
It is now undeniable that the Federal Government has failed us completely. We have asked our representatives to hold the Bush Administration accountable. Instead, they have blocked the Impeachment movement all over our country.
As we approach the anniversary of the illegal Iraq invasion, we have not given up on the idea of holding the criminals in the Bush Administration or those who enable them accountable. There is something that you can do. It is now time for Plan B.
Impeach for Peace researched a method for impeaching the President or Vice President using a little known and rarely used part of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives ("Jefferson's Manual"). This document actually empowers individual states to initiate the impeachment process. All that's required is that the MN House and Senate pass an impeachment resolution.
So spread the word, tell your friends, your family, your coworkers, your allies. We will hold a rally Monday, March 17th, on the steps of the Capitol Building in St Paul. When we are finished with the rally, we will storm the Capitol Building. We shall demand that the Minnesota House and Senate immediately pass a resolution calling for the Impeachment of George W Bush and Dick Cheney (Contact them yourself Now and demand Impeachment!). Our message will be clear to those inside. If you, as a representative do not support this and treat it with all the urgency it deserves, then you will face opposition in the next election cycle. The message that you will face will be simple, direct and clear. It will be that you refused to honor your Oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution from All Enemies, Foreign and Domestic. That instead you, by your refusal to start impeachment actually defend the criminals in the Bush Administration and continue the illegal occupation in Iraq. We will actively work against your reelection to the MN State Legislature, regardless of your party affiliation. We will make this very personal. This is how we will ensure that you listen to the demands of We the People, instead of the lobbyists who fund your campaigns. Oh and before you try and give us excuses, we have done our homework. We already know that according to the Constitution, an impeachment resolution is virtually the only thing that the Governor is unable to veto.
We can do this, we must do this. The future of our children and our democratic republic depends on it. What we need is YOU showing up and demanding accountability. Let us know if you're planning on coming.

Close Guantanamo Orange Day!

Close Guantanamo Orange Day
Meet Friday, January 11, 2008:30am.
Hennepin & Lagoon Ave in Uptown, in front of the Library.
The ACLU of Minnesota and Impeach for Peace are coordinating a protest on the 6 year anniversary of the first prisoners from Afghanistan arriving at Guantanamo.
Bring Signs, tell your friends, bring your friends, wear orange! Impeach for Peace will have members wearing Guantanamo Bay Orange Jumpsuits and Black Hoods.
Below, read a statement by the ACLU MN as well as find a link to purchase your own orange arm band...
------------------------------
ACLU is calling on people of conscience to wear orange on January 11th to demand the closing of the prison at Guantanamo Bay and an immediate end to 6 years of injustice.
On January 11, 2002 the first prisoners from Afghanistan arrived at the prison at Guantanamo Bay.
In the six years since, the prison has been a mark of shame for our country. In fact, three years after the military tribunals were first established there, there has yet to be a single trial completed for any person in custody.
Every day that the prison at Guantanamo stays open is an insult to our values and makes a mockery of our commitment to justice and the rule of law.
That's why on January 11th, the ACLU is leading a nationwide movement calling on people of conscience to wear orange and demand an immediate end to the injustice at Guantanamo Bay. By standing in solidarity we can shift the debate on this national disgrace. So, we're teaming up with organizations across the country to demand the prison be closed and asking ACLU members to get involved.
To help you participate in this national day of action, we're asking ACLU members to wear an orange "Close Guantanamo" armband on January 11.
The fact is the Bush Administration decided to hold prisoners at Guantanamo because it believed the offshore location would be beyond the reach of our courts. This turned Guantanamo into a laboratory for indefinite detention and cruel treatment.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard two cases that challenge the Bush Administration's policy of holding prisoners without charging them. As we stated in our brief to the court, "[T]heir confinement in military custody without charges or trial for more than five years violates fundamental principles of due process of law." And, at Guantanamo Bay, the ACLU continued to monitor the latest kangaroo court-style hearing.
Guantanamo has become a stain on our nation's honor. That is why it is so important you join hundreds of thousands of Americans who are demanding the closure of the prison at Guantanamo on January 11th. You'll soon be hearing about the January events happening across the country and online.
Thank you so much for your involvement today as we fight to reclaim our constitutional heritage and restore the full vibrancy of our democracy.
Attend the Minneapolis City Council Meetings with impeachment signs and shirts to show support. According to sources on the Minneapolis City Council, they will be taking up impeachment in the next few months. The idea is to be a visual advertisement of the call on them to impeach!
ImpeachForPeace.org is asking you to show up at the Minneapolis City Council (350 S 5th St, Rm 317) Friday December 21st at 9:15am. Parking can be difficult so you'll probably have to park a few blocks away (on 6th street there are meters around 5th Ave, bring quarters). We suggest you wear impeachment shirts, buttons, etc. Signs are also allowed, but we've been asked to sit along the back of the room out of respect for the proceedings.
Is Bush/Cheney Impeachment a City Council’s Job? - City Council members take an oath of office promising to "protect and defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. They don't take an oath to fix potholes. If the Constitution is in danger then their primary duty is to defend it. - Cities and towns routinely send petitions to Congress for all kinds of requests. This is allowed under Clause 3, Rule XII, Section 819, of the Rules of the House of Representatives. This clause is routinely used to accept petitions from cities, and memorials from states, all across America.
Is Impeachment a Local Issue? - If a federal action has a significant negative impact on this city, then it is appropriate for this city to defend itself. - Citizens from this city may be sent, or have been sent, to Iraq to fight in an illegal and unjustified war. - Tax funds from this city that could have been spent locally have been spent in Iraq for war. Tax money from this city has been wasted in no-bid contracts with companies like Halliburton with deep ties to the Bush administration. Yet this city can barely afford the emergency services, libraries, and schools that we need. - The State National Guard should be available to protect this city from floods or other disasters. But instead, President Bush has sent them to Iraq.

This is a call out to all the frustrated people around this country who wish to see our system of checks and balances work. Converge on Washington D.C. December 4th to demand that the Judiciary Committee takes up this issue. It is vital that this administration not be allowed to go to war with Iran. We need to do everything we can to strip them of their power.

National Impeachment and Peace Protests
Saturday, October 27, 2007@10:00am.
This coming Saturday, October 27, people from all walks of life will gather in 11 cities around the country in a national expression of the breadth and depth of antiwar sentiment in this nation. For many people, it will be their first step in transforming their antiwar feelings into antiwar action. Regional actions will enable much larger numbers of people to participate.
Watch a video by Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films, made in support of the October 27 mobilization.
People everywhere want the war to end, but Washington has failed to take decisive action. With each passing month, the Iraq disaster claims the lives of nearly 100 service people and countless Iraqis as it drains 12 billion of our tax-dollars. Our communities are neglected and suffer the consequences.
Today, an amazing and powerful story is unfolding in this country. We've all known for some time that most people want the war and occupation in Iraq to end. For the first time, people from all walks of life will have an opportunity to be counted as part of a national, public protest without having to travel to Washington, DC, or New York City. People are responding, and looking forward to speaking with one voice to demand an end to this outrageous war.
Momentum is building for the 11 regional demonstrations -- Boston; Chicago; Jonesborough, Tenn.; Los Angeles; New Orleans; New York City; Orlando; Philadelphia; Salt Lake City; San Francisco; and Seattle -- that will be held on Saturday, October 27th.
Watch/share the video created by Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films in support of the October 27th mobilization. And sign the pledge to let us know you'll be participating in October 27th!

Thursday, October 18, 2007@7:00pm for 2 hours.
Impeachment Debate: TO IMPEACH OR NOT TO IMPEACH? Pro-Impeachment: Jodin Morey, Cofounder-Impeach for Peace Anti-Impeachment: Tim Penny, Former DFL Congressman
7-9 pm Thursday, October 18th, 2007 THIRD THURSDAY GLOBAL ISSUES FORUM (free and open to the public) Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church 511 Groveland Avenue (at Lyndale & Hennepin) Minneapolis, MN 55403 (park in church parking lot)
Article II, Section 4 of the federal Constitution states that civil officers of the US may be impeached for commission of "Treason, Bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." Determining whether sufficient grounds exist for impeachment is the prerogative of the House of Representatives, while the actual trial subsequent to impeachment is entrusted to the Senate. Relevant questions relate to whether the alleged criminal actions were knowingly and deliberately committed and the political judgment as to whether impeachment - or the failure to impeach - will serve the best interests of the nation.
Presenters: TIM PENNY and JODIN MOREY. Arguing for impeachment will be Jodin Morey, Mr. Morey is a Cofounder of Impeach for Peace and author of the Do-It-Yourself Impeachment. And Mr. Morey published a series documenting President Bush’s impeachable offenses on OhMyNews International. Opposing impeachment will be Tim Penny, a senior fellow and co-Director of the Humphrey Institute Policy Forum. After representing Minnesota's First Congressional District from 1982 to 1994, Mr. Penny served on the transition team of Governor Jesse Ventura and, in 2002 was himself the Independence Party candidate for governor of Minnesota. Sunday, September 23, 2007@12:00pm for 3 hours with people.
Town Hall with Rep. Ellison & Rep. Conyers
URGENT: SHOW UP AT THE HEIGHTS THEATER AT NOON THIS SUNDAY TO GET IN LINE FOR THE CONYERS/ELLISON TOWN HALL MEETING! CALL EVERY IMPEACHMENT ADVOCATE YOU KNOW AND GET THEM TO SHOW UP AS WELL.
This Sunday, September 23rd from 1-3 p.m. at The Historic Heights Theater (763-788-9079, Map to the Event) at 3951 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, MN 55421 (Columbia Heights) Congressman Keith Ellison is hosting a Forum on "Health Care for All Americans" with special guest Congressman John Conyers, Jr. As we know, no decent health care policy will make it past Bush's veto until his criminal administration has been held accountable through impeachment.
Conyers is the chief sponsor of HR 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act and is also the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, where any impeachment process of President George W. Bush and/or Vice President Richard B. Cheney must be initiated and where H. Res. 333 to impeach Cheney sits in the subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Both Ellison - who has cosigned 333 and Conyers - who has not, sit on that subcommittee.
Our health is in grave danger as long as the health of our democracy is ignored. With all respect to the intended focus of the event, full accountability for the crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush Administration is of graver and more immediate concern. We have requested a meeting with Rep. Conyers and are awaiting a reply from his offices. The tone of our participation in this event should reflect the degree to which Rep. Conyers commits to honor his oath of office to defend the Constitution against the domestic enemies to it residing in our White House.
Please set aside all other plans for early Sunday Afternoon and join us in demanding full accountability from the single man who has the most power to initiate that accountability through impeachment: Rep. John Conyers, Jr. Join us and dress as a doctor or nurse and hand out the above "prescription". We'll have extra copies available for you to hand out!
Please forward this to your e-list as well as committing to invite five friends directly.

The THIRD FRIDAY of every month beginning Friday September 21st
Join with millions to:
Wear and distribute black ribbons and armbands Buy no gas on Moratorium days Pressure politicians and the media Hold vigils, pickets, rallies, and teach-ins Hold special religious services Coordinate events in music, art, and culture Host film showings, talks, and educational events Organize student actions: Teach-ins, school closings, etc.
The slow motion train wreck that is the occupation of Iraq grows more nightmarish by the day. In 2006 the American people voted to bring it to an end. But the political process is moving glacially at best. We must force the media and the politicians to recognize just how angry and how massive anti-war sentiment in this country has grown.
It's time for the Iraq Moratorium.
The Iraq Moratorium will be an escalating, monthly series of actions demanding an end to the war. Commencing Friday, September 21st and continuing the Third Friday of every month thereafter, we will make a break with business as usual.

ImpeachForPeace.org is asking you to show up at the Minneapolis City Council (350 S 5th St, Rm 317) at 8:30am. We suggest you wear impeachment shirts, buttons, etc. Signs to hold up are also aloud in the meeting. Some people might wish to demonstrate outside the building, while others will likely want to attend the meeting itself. Cam Gordon mentioned that any disruption of the meeting might lead to those disruptors being removed from the meeting. Even so, ImpeachForPeace.org organizers did overhear some people speak of civil disobedience by standing up during the proceedings and loudly expressing their desire for the council to pass an impeachment resolution.
We also need organizations and businesses to sign a letter of support for the Impeachment resolution. They can be mailed to: City Hall ATTN: Minneapolis City Council 350 S. 5th St. Rm #307 Minneapolis, MN 55415
Impeachment a City Council’s Job? • City Council members take an oath of office promising to "protect and defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. They don't take an oath to fix potholes. If the Constitution is in danger then their primary duty is to defend it. • Cities and towns routinely send petitions to Congress for all kinds of requests. This is allowed under Clause 3, Rule XII, Section 819, of the Rules of the House of Representatives. This clause is routinely used to accept petitions from cities, and memorials from states, all across America. "This is not a local issue!" • If a federal action has a significant negative impact on this city, then it is appropriate for this city to defend itself. • Citizens from this city may be sent, or have been sent, to Iraq to fight in an illegal and unjustified war. • Tax funds from this city that could have been spent locally have been spent in Iraq for war. Tax money from this city has been wasted in no-bid contracts with companies like Halliburton with deep ties to the Bush administration. Yet this city can barely afford the emergency services, libraries, and schools that we need. • The State National Guard should be available to protect this city from floods or other disasters. But instead they have been sent to Iraq by President Bush.
WE NEED TO KNOW... WAS THE CASE FOR WAR FRAUDULENT? by Sook Holdridge
Congress continues to suppress investigating whether top government officials tricked the nation into war with Iraq, even though the preponderance of the evidence is that they did.
Here we have an alleged high crime that reflects a democracy not working as it should, with only a handful daring to challenge it. Most are taking the stand they think will best serve their own re-election chances, and the interests of their party. But, no matter what reasons our representatives in Congress give for not investigating, their refusal amounts to an abdication of duty.
All government officials take an oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and take care that the laws be faithfully executed. When violations of that oath occur, and nothing is done to hold the perpetrators accountable, it falls on the people to apply the pressure necessary to make Congress perform its oversight job. That seems to be where we are today.
No matter what political persuasion or stand on the war, it’s time for all Americans to come together to demand the House of Representatives pass a “Resolution of Inquiry”—a call for an investigation.
To get behind this action means becoming enlightened about what actually happened in the run-up to war, and the laws that apply. One person who is helping people become enlightened on the case made for war is Elizabeth de la Vega, a former assistant federal attorney with 20 years of experience and passion for justice. She devoted two years meticulously sifting through mountains of facts, and throwing out any evidence that was not corroborated by two or more reliable sources. Many of them are in her book, United States v. George W. Bush et al.
To highlight de la Vega’s work, on Tuesday June 26th 7:00 p.m. at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (junction of Lyndale and Hennepin), six readers will be presenting a one count proposed indictment of top government officials: a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371 which prevents conspiracies to defraud the United States. (Admission is free)
The last paragraph in de la Vega’s book reads, “The President, the Vice President, and their most senior advisors have perpetrated a massive fraud upon our country. Their crime was—and continues to be—far worse than the Enron fraud. We must not shrug our shoulders and walk away.”
On a higher plane, this case squares us with what kind of nation we are, and asks what kind of nation we want to be.
The ACLU invites you to be a rally supporter of the "Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice" on June 26. This is a rally to demand of Congress and the President a restoration of the great principles upon which this country was founded. The America we know is disappearing, it has been replaced with a program of secret prisons, the elimination of habeas corpus and due process, the use of torture, unlimited detention, and unfair trials. It is crucial that we urge our lawmakers to reverse this course. It is crucial that we urge our lawmakers to reverse this course and to:
Restore due process and the power of courts to hear habeas corpus cases. Reform the abuses of the Military Commissions Act (MCA) by passing the Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007. End torture and abuse in secret prisons. Stop extraordinary rendition that allows secretly kidnapping people and sending them to countries that torture. Close the detention center at Guantánamo Bay and give those held there access to justice. Investigate wrongdoing and ensure those who broke the law are held accountable. Restore American values and the rule of law.

Impeach event...
Saturday, April 28, 2007@10:30am.
Help us with ImpeachForPeace.org's Minneapolis A-28 event! We will spell out "IMPEACH" with canoes on Saturday morning, April 28th, and again with bedsheets that evening. Be a part of this effort to tell the world that the Twin Cities are serious about impeachment!
To participate in the first event, gather at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Calhoun Pavilion at 3000 Calhoun Parkway East in Minneapolis. Allow time to find parking. Wear light colored/bright colors to stand out from the lake water. Be on time!
To pay for canoe rental, we’ll need your help. It costs per hour to rent a canoe, and we hope to have two people per canoe. (It may take us as much as two hours, which means the cost may be as much as per person.)
Also, if you know anyone who lives at Lake Place or Lake Calhoun Beach Club Apartments, please contact us! We need to use a lakefront, top floor apartment as a vantage point from which to take a photograph.
Then, that evening, show up at Riverside Park at 7:00 p.m. This is the West side of the Mississippi riverbank, beneath the Route 122 bridge near the UofM Campus. Here's the Map
We'll need 65 twin bedsheets (preferably white) and as many flashlights as you can carry to form the word "IMPEACH" and underlight the sheets so that they're visible to the jets landing at the airport and the cameras capturing the image.
In order to do this, we’ll need 85 people in the morning and 150 in the evening to commit in advance to these nationally important events! Sign up here: http://volunteerforchange.org/org/show/547
You won't regret helping to contribute to the restoration of law and the constitution!

Camp Casey Easter 2007 April 5- Easter Sunday April 8
Once again the President will be home for the holidays. We as Gold Star Families for Peace have had our holidays forever tarnished by George Bush’s’ reckless policy of occupying Iraq. We will be returning to Camp Casey for our Easter holiday and we invite you to join us. Everyone is welcomed.
It is important that we let George Bush know that his war and policies are unacceptable. Because of his free speech zones this is about as close as anyone who disagrees with him can get. Imagine thousands of us at his back door showing him the error of his ways.

March on the Pentagon
Saturday, March 17, 2007@12:00pm.
MARCH ON THE PENTAGON Saturday March 17 End the War NOW! Impeach Bush for War Crimes!
On March 17, to mark the 5th year of this immoral and unjust war and occupation of Iraq, JOIN FORCES and march on The Pentagon. Tell the Bush Regime to End the War NOW! No attack on Iran!
George Bush and Dick Cheney must be impeached for war crimes and crimes against humanity! Millions are against the war, spying, torture, the abandoning of Katrina survivors, a spreading theocracy and suppression of science—and want the whole disaster of the Bush regime to be brought to a halt. The more we demand impeachment, Bush’s war options will grow more limited; the more his war crimes are exposed, the greater the impetus for his removal and repudiation.
It is time we rise to this challenge in unity with each other. The people are on our side, the momentum is on our side, the whole world is on our side. The challenge: are we going to move heaven and earth to remove the criminal Bush regime, ending the war and repudiating the direction they’ve taken this society?
“THAT WHICH YOU WILL NOT RESIST AND MOBILIZE TO STOP, YOU WILL LEARN OR BE FORCED TO ACCEPT
Now is the time. 2008 is too late. It is unconscionable to allow this carnage to go on. We can and must reverse the entire course we have been forced to accept, or it will be made permanent.
March on the Pentagon and make our voices heard!
Saturday, MARCH 17. Assemble at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (Constitution Gardens) at 12 noon in Washington, D.C. 2 pm March to the Pentagon.
For more info: worldcantwait.org or (866) 973 4463 ------------------- On Monday March 19th, as a follow-up to our huge rally at the Pentagon groups of individuals will be meeting with Congresspeople to help hit home the point that our coalition of organizations (representative of many millions of disaffected U.S. citizens) demand impeachment of Bush and Cheney.
In order to make that message crystal clear we will be authoring what are called "memorials" which is a legally/procedurally recognized method by the Rules of the House of Representatives for individual citizens to initiate the impeachment process in the House. The congressperson can then, if convinced, bring up articles of impeachment for debate.
This is being headed up by Joshua Schulman of the Kingston, NY chapter He has volunteered to organize this along with Jodin of the Minneapolis chpater. Contact Joshua at: kingstonny.org
Jodin, has worked up a "memorial" as part of his DIY Impeachment. So, for your own memorial to bring with you to see your representative, download it here: http://beingism.org/cgi-bin/DIYExtra.cgi
Friday, February 9, 2007@4:00pm for 3 hours with 80 people.
Concerned about dissenters who want to hand this nation over to the terrorists by stopping the war?
Worried that Democrats and disaffected Republicans will impeach the President and end torture as we know it?
Patriots for Corporate Rights invites you to join up with other concerned citizens on Friday, February 9th, between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. We will gather in Minneapolis at Lagoon & Hennepin, Uptown (in front of the library), to celebrate our nation’s willingness to go to war and to torture people in order to preserve freedom here and abroad.
Bring a sign or a friend. Be a part of the movement opposing dissent in our nation! The above mentioned rally is a tactic. The idea is to get people to wake up and see the ridiculousness of supporting war and torture, which is what they are inadvertently doing by being complacent. It becomes harder to put the fact that our nation is actually torturing people out of your mind when there are people standing up in defense of the right to do it. And if the population isn't outraged when they see us, media reports on the lack of that outrage can be an effective way of getting our message across as well.
We’re betting that signs like “Dissent is unpatriotic,” "3,000 Soldiers is worth it" and “War is good for business” will show the true colors of Bush and his supporters. This kind of dissent is in the tradition of groups like The Yes Men (http://www.theyesmen.org/). This could motivate progressive thinkers who might otherwise have stayed at home to take action, make people sitting on the fence think about the issue and realize how ridiculous pro-Bush people are being, and give us more media attention, as the media is fairly accustomed to anti-war protests.

WEAR AN ORANGE JUMP SUIT, IF YOU CAN, AND A BLACK HOOD
We wish for a large number of folks in orange jump suits to represent the Guantanamo prison population of about 400. Those not participating in this bit of street theater can still protest Guantanamo in other ways at this vigil.
a.. Commemorate the 5th anniversary of the first detainees' arrival at Guantanamo. Many of these prisoners are still languishing there, suffering torture and abuse and complete lack of legal due process. b.. Sign a petition to demand due process or immediate release for Guantanamo prisoners and to demand the closing down of Guantanamo. January 11 is the INTERNATIONAL DAY TO SHUT DOWN GUANTANAMO. c.. March in an orderly silent procession, hauntingly evoking the moral disgrace that is Guantanamo. Deliver petitions. Demand justice. d.. Get yours while the supply lasts. We are selling orange jump suits for only , which is slightly less than our cost. We also have a supply of black hoods that we are selling for , which is also slightly less than our cost. So, you can get a suit and black hood for .00. Hoods and suits will be available beginning on Friday, 1/5/07 on a first come, first serve, at the office of Bob Kolstad, 1005 W. Franklin, #3. This is upstairs from Sebastians. Call Bob first to make sure he will be there (612-721-3425). Remaining hoods and suits will be available at the filming of "Road to Guantanamo". If we still have some left over, we will bring them to the anti-Guantanamo vigil, Jan 11 at 4:00 PM, Hennepin County Government Center, 3rd Ave and 5th St.
The hoods are made out of cambric cloth that looks opaque, but which you can see out of. To make your own hood, take a rectangle of cloth 18"x36". Fold so that it is 18" square. Sew or safety pin the two sides, leaving the bottom open where you insert your head. No need to make hoods, though. We made up 50 of these!
Sponsored by:T3: Tackling Torture at the Top, Twin Cities Peace Campaign, Anti-War Committee, the War Resisters League, and Witness Against Torture.

IMPEACHMENT FLASHMOB - San Francisco
Saturday, January 6, 2007@10:30am.
Can you make it to San Fran? IMPEACHMENT FLASHMOB with helicopter, Sat, Jan 6, Ocean Beach, San Francisco, 10:30 a.m.
On Saturday, January 6, 2007 (just two days after the new US Congress convenes), 1,200 people will gather for a (Park Service-permitted) impeachment event in Nancy Pelosi’s back yard -- on Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
Early that morning, in 100-foot letters stretching 450 feet across the sand, volunteers from the Beach Impeach Project will outline the message:
I M P E A C H !
At 10:30 a.m., the 1,200 attendees will arrive and lay their bodies down inside the message’s lettering. At 11 o’clock a helicopter will arrive overhead and photographers will record the 1,200 bodies in the sand -- “IMPEACH!” -- with the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
News editors will have compelling photos for the next morning’s Sunday papers; the nation and world will have convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi’s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster; and the impeachment movement will have powerful visuals to go with the words and chatter swirling in the air for months and months now.
To participate, please take 60 seconds to register yourself and your friends. If 1,200 people register in advance, this will be not just a frolic at the beach, but a NEWS story (the media are already interested). Also, I can communicate via just one email with all who are registered, instead of 1,200 emails. Please take 60 seconds to register:

Mental Health Day on the Hill
Tuesday, March 28, 2006@10:00am for 4 hours.
Day on the Hill.. The annual mental health day on the hill will be held on March 28th. This year our theme is “Investing in Mental Health Makes ‘Cents’” We will have cards with pennies on them for you to bring to your legislators’ offices. We also encourage you to bring a jar of pennies to the rally to demonstrate your community’s support for mental health services.
The legislative briefing will begin at 10 a.m. at a NEW location: Christ Lutheran Church, 105 University Avenue West, St. Paul (just across the street from the Capitol) ( Please note: No food is allowed and you need to park at one of the ramps or surface lots.) The rally will take place at noon in the rotunda of the Capitol. Be sure and make an appointment to visit with your legislators after 1 p.m.
Come to the Capitol and demonstrate your support for increased funding for mental health services. We need more affordable housing, employment opportunities, community mental health services, and family supports. We need better educational outcomes and fewer people ending up in the criminal justice system due to untreated mental illness.
Local affiliates are encouraged to organize busses and vans in your community so that more people can attend.
