The offices of www.ImpeachforPeace.org learned this morning that Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) (seen in photo with IFP members prior to May Day Parade) has cosigned House Resolution 333 as authored by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) calling for impeachment hearings to commence against Vice President Richard B. Cheney.

Members of ImpeachforPeace had met with Rep. Ellison in April at which time he had said that “Impeachment Should Be on the Table”, but that he needed to hear clearly from his consituents as to their will in this matter before cosigning the impeachment bill authored by the Representative Kucinich who he described as “a good friend”.

Rep. Ellison’s signature, along with that of Rep. James McDermott (D-WA), who also added his name to the resolution this week, brought the number of cosigners of H. Res. 333 to ten. Ellison is notably the second member of the House Judiciary Committee to cosign, along with Maxine Waters (D-CA). The HJC is where the bill sits for now, waiting for enough citizen support and pressure to be brought to a vote. A vote resulting in a simple majority of the 38 members of the HJC would initiate impeachment hearings in the House of Representatives against Vice President Cheney for lying to lead us into the invasion and occupation of Iraq, among other charges.

Resolutions in support of H. Res. 333 and calling for Rep. Ellison to cosign were resoundingly passed at the Minnesota 5th District Democratic Farmer-Labor Party Central meeting last week after a presentation by ImpeachforPeace.

Tens of thousands of Minneapolis citizens – constituents of Rep. Ellison – had roared their approval as black-hooded, orange clad ‘detainees’ in chains preceded the ImpeachforPeace.org banner in both the May Day and the Pride Festival Parades.

A stack of single page Do-It Yourself Impeachment Memorials over a foot and a half tall was collected at the ImpeachforPeace table during the Pride Festival in Loring Park last weekend alone. DIY Impeachment Memorial forms are available to be downloaded, filled out and mailed to IFP and IFP members will be hand delivering thousands of completed forms to the HJC in July.

It is the view of ImpeachforPeace that the Bush Administration has many times over proven themselves to be domestic enemies to the U. S. Constitution and that Rep. Ellison has simply honored his oath to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against enemies both foreign AND DOMESTIC’ by adding his name to this resolution.

It is also the view of ImpeachforPeace that those civil servants at every level of our government from City Council and Mayor up through State Congress and the U.S. Congress who have yet to make a public stand against the Bush Administration from their citizen-appointed seat of power are in violation of their oaths of office until they do.

  1. I’m not sure I’d rely on Keith. He called out Bush as a dictator, a totalitarian, and an authoritarian.

If he’s right, then he’s a dead man walking sure to be gunned down in the streets, or just “disappeared”.

If he’s wrong, and note that he doesn’t seem scared about this; then even he doesn’t believe himself. So he’s not just lying, but even he doesn’t believe his lies.

But I could be wrong… maybe BUSHHITLER OF AMERIKKKA will kill him. Pardon me if I don’t hold my breath.

  2. Aren’t you sick of “executive privelage” and “national security” being used like a club to beat us into submission? They honestly believe that the peoples private lives should be an open book, but our public government should be allowed to hide everything. Ridiculous. They ignored 30 year old laws that say they can’t spy domestically without court approval (FISA), while simultaneously breaking the law that says they have to archive all Presidential records.(RNC’s missing emails AND Cheneys outright refusal to obey the law) Then they thumb their noses at congress issued subpoenas. I mean that’s four more recent CRIMINAL acts on top of outing an undercover CIA agent. What do these guys have to do to get impeached??? Murder on live TV??

The U.S. citizenry doesn’t want us in Iraq. Iraqis don’t want us in Iraq. We all agree that it’s time to go home. The only people still hungry for war just so happen to be in charge. I say we change that fact. Let’s get the ball rolling. Impeach both the President and the Vice President for twisting the pre-war intelligence to match their own political motivations and sending us into an unnecessary and costly war. There is ample evidence in Scooter Libby’s trial for impeaching them both.

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney will go down in history as the Administration who cried “War”.

  3. This news made my day!

It is so good to see the Congress and the American people finally waking up from a fear induced zombie like nightmare that was imposed by the Cheney/Bush administration. America is now waking up to the truth of the atrocities that this administration has imposed on its citizens in the name of national security while their only agenda has been to gain a tighter grip on power and to feed their powerful and rich business connections (big oil, the war industry, pharmaceutical companies, etc.). With this America is stepping in the right direction again. We want to see Cheney impeached, it is the first step in restoring America’s credibility and for its citizens to regain the losses in civil liberties seen in the six years of near tyrrany.

  4. Congratulations, Mikael! (…and all your helpers, of course)! Your tireless committment to We, The People is finally paying off… little by little, we WILL prevail against the Forces of Evil!!

We have a LOOOOOONG way to go, but there IS a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel at last!

Isn’t it INCREDIBLE that the American Public is taking all these years, all those lives, all our tax dollars, all the lies… to BEGIN, at last, to see what’s being done to us?! Especially since it’s all right there in their own words, with their own signatures on their own PNAC pages & the Zionist Clean Break pages – right out where everyone in the entire world can see what they’re up to ! It blows my mind…….

  5. So good to hear that obvious crimes are finally being recognised by those with the power to affect change. I find it hard to understand how we have got to this stage, to this way of government and this way of living as powerless victims of our governments’ deadly management of our countries – with disasterous foreign policies (I am in the UK, too late to impeach ours, but criminal charges should still be considered).

A relief to see movement in the better direction, at last. Thanks to those who created this site and pushed for what they believed in, your hard work is sincerely appreciated 🙂

    Namaste,
    Tina Louise

  6. Great news. But, to paraphrase Minneapolis School Board Director Chris Stewart (DFL) just after he called me anti-American for asking about his oath of office – Do I get all the time we wasted convincing you to live up to your promises back, Keith? You cost us big time in opportunity costs, Rep. Ellison. It’s great that you signed on as a cosponsor, but until you bring on a colleague or two, I reckon you still owe us.

    Semper pacificus,

Daniel I. Fearn, the Impeachment Grunt

  7. I say with utter sincerity that I sleep better at night knowing that I am represented in Congress by Representative Ellison. You rock Keith! Thanks for the courageous and wise leadership!

  8. I am extremely proud and greatly encouraged by both Rep. Ellison’s stepping up and my 5th District really pushing him to do so. It is a privilege living in the 5th District of Minnesota/Minneapolis and has been an honor to work toward what Keith has now fully confirmed is our shared goal of holding the Bush Administration accountable through the Constitutionally mandated process of impeachment.

As we told him we would after we met, we have his back politically in this step and will defend this courageous action in every way possible. He has ‘stuck his neck out’ by showing spine and integrity and we of ImpeachforPeace will support him completely as he continues to move this forward in Washington DC on our behalf.

Keith has shown himself to be exactly as he said he would be when running for office: dedicated to peace and justice and a staunch advocate for labor, health care, the environment and the rights of individual citizens over corporate entities and heartless profiteers.

  9. Thanks to Jodin, Mikael, and all the folks at Impeach for Peace for your tireless efforts to make this happen!

  10. This is what your constituents have been waiting for. Thank you Mr. Ellison for upholding your oath to protect the Constitution! Impeach Cheney!
