Obama Asks: Change What? Answer: Accountability

Impeach for Peace has just become an endorser of the idea on the Change.org website (which is collecting ideas to recommend to Obama’s Administration) that reads:

“Appoint a Special Prosecutor for the Crimes of the Bush Administration

President-elect Obama recently said, ‘if I found out that there were high officials who knowingly, consciously broke existing laws, engaged in coverups of those crimes with knowledge forefront, then I think a basic principle of our Constitution is nobody above the law.’

Attorney General-designate Eric Holder recently said top Bush Administration officials ‘authorized the use of torture, approved of secret electronic surveillance of American citizens, secretly detained American citizens without due process of law, denied the Writ of Habeus Corpus to hundreds of accused enemy combatants, and authorized the use of procedures that both violate international law and the United States Constitution.’

The Bush administration has refused to investigate its own crimes and President Bush may issue blanket pardons before he leaves. President Obama must appoint a Special Prosecutor – ideally Patrick Fitzgerald – to fully investigate these crimes and prosecute those responsible to demonstrate that we are truly a Nation of Laws and no one – including the President – is above the law.
– Bob Fertik (President of Democrats.com), New York, NY”

Join us by going to Change.org and making sure that Obama does the right thing. He’s been consistently telling the American people, when asked about accountability for the Bush Administration, that his administration will be focused on “looking forward.” Accountability can not happen without looking back. And the future will look the same as the past if we don’t learn from history. If Change.org gets enough votes for this idea, then it will be part of the final 10 ideas presented at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Then, Change.org will launch a national campaign behind each idea and mobilize the event in Washington, DC. Let your friends know, and vote. We’re only a small ways from being in the top 10!!!

This guy Fertik is an idiot! If he appoints Patrick(Bulldog)Fitzgerald as Special Procecutor, then it will backfire in Obama’s face, as Obama is as dirty as Blago(better hope he doesn’t sing), and the rest of the corrupt Chicago Machine.

  2. Beautifully said Mr. Steinmetz.

If Obama and others fail to allow and support justice in the cases of publicly confirmed criminals in the Bush Administration they are soon to become ‘accessories after the fact’ – just as criminally liable as the felons they are allowing to escape justice.

  3. As has been said: “All that needs to be done for evil to succeed, is for enough good people to do nothing.”
