\"impeachBerkeleySide<\/b> – Tuesday night, the Berkeley City Council<\/a> became the third, and largest, Bay Area city to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day there\u2019s a new ethical problem\u00a0that warrants\u00a0impeachment,\u201d said Mayor Jesse Arregu\u00edn, who co-sponsored the resolution<\/a>, with Councilwoman Sophie Hahn, calling for the federal investigation into Trump. Council members Ben Bartlett and Cheryl Davila asked to be added as co-sponsors during Tuesday night\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n

The mayor\u2019s office cited concerns about how the president has undermined freedom of the press, and had \u201cconspicuous connections with Russian officials,\u201d as some of the reasons the House of Representatives should\u00a0launch an investigation into the possible\u00a0impeachment of the president.<\/p>\n

The resolution was part of the consent calendar and did not generate much talk at Tuesday night\u2019s meeting. It was approved unanimously along with dozens of other items. Council will now send a copy of the resolution to Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who represents California\u2019s 13th District in the\u00a0U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n
