<\/a>The International Committee of the Red Cross warns that the humanitarian situation for ordinary Iraqis is getting steadily worse, and calls for greater protection of civilians.<\/p>\n

In a report, titled “Civilians without protection: The ever-worsening crisis in Iraq<\/font>“, the ICRC deplores the daily acts of violence such as shootings, bombings, kidnappings, killings and military operations that directly target innocent Iraqi civilians in clear violation of international humanitarian law and other applicable legal standards.<\/p>\n

The ICRC still has a presence in Iraq<\/font> despite the bombing of its Baghdad offices three and a half years ago.<\/p>\n

In the report, issued Wednesday in Geneva, it asked Iraqi civilians what could be done to help them.<\/p>\n

The answers were shocking, according to ICRC director of operations Pierre Kraehenbuehl.<\/p>\n

“The suffering that Iraqi men, women and children are enduring today is unbearable and unacceptable. Their lives and dignity are continuously under threat,” he said.<\/p>\n
