Massachusetts Branch of Impeach for Peace — Congratulations to the Town of Montague for joining the collection of other towns and cities across Massachusetts and Vermont for voting 48 – 25 in favor of impeaching Bush and Cheney. There were many other important warrant articles (and to some, this should not even have been allowed on the warrant) but this was the one I was watching for the most.<\/p>\n
Interesting thing … Moderator Ray Godin had said that he wasn’t going to allow debate on the article, but because of the attention and feedback he was getting before the meeting he allowed us to vote on whether or not to allow debate. After a short debate on whether or not to allow any debate, we voted and the room was split 40 – 40! Ray cast the deciding vote, as moderator, and shut down debate on the article. (In the end, it’s unlikely that any debate would have changed anyone’s mind, anyway.) When it was determined that no debate would be allowed, seven (7) people got up and walked out of the room. The remaining Town Meeting members then voted on the article itself, first with a voice vote, and then a standing tally vote, 48 to 25 in favor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
