\"impeachmenttheHill<\/b> – Rep. Al Green<\/a><\/span> (D-Texas) said Tuesday that he will force a House floor vote to impeach President Trump if he fires the special counsel overseeing the FBI\u2019s investigation into his potential ties with the Russian government.<\/p>\n

Green told The Hill in in his Capitol Hill office that he would \u201cimmediately\u201d move to trigger a floor vote if Trump ousts Robert Mueller. Trump media allies have been suggesting in recent days <\/a>that Trump might try to get rid of Mueller, who won bipartisan praise after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed him last month.<\/p>\n

Green was the first Democrat to announce he was drafting articles of impeachment against Trump. He didn\u2019t offer a timeline for when he would formally introduce them but said he would sharply accelerate the effort if Trump fires Mueller.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the president fires the current special counsel, I will then bring articles of impeachment to the floor immediately, if not sooner,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that would be a part of the last straw, if not the last straw, if he did that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Green\u2019s comments came after Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) unveiled a draft article of impeachment<\/a> on Monday arguing that Trump committed an obstruction of justice by allegedly pressuring since-ousted FBI Director James Comey to drop the FBI\u2019s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.<\/p>\n

Sherman indicated he might force a floor vote on his article of impeachment if the GOP-controlled House Judiciary Committee doesn\u2019t take it up.<\/p>\n
