{"id":3124,"date":"2007-08-14T11:44:32","date_gmt":"2007-08-14T17:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/impeach_bush_blog\/?p=3124"},"modified":"2017-05-21T03:08:40","modified_gmt":"2017-05-21T09:08:40","slug":"rnc-now-seeks-shelter-of-executive-privilege","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/2007\/08\/rnc-now-seeks-shelter-of-executive-privilege\/","title":{"rendered":"RNC Now Seeks Shelter of Executive Privilege"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Jason Leopold, t r u t h o u t<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\"  href=\"https:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/fullsteamahead.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" style='float: left; margin: 0px 15px 15px 0px; width: 250px;' src=\"https:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/fullsteamahead.thumbnail.gif\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>The Republican National Committee said it will not abide by a subpoena and turn over documents to a Congressional committee investigating the firings of at least eight US attorneys last year because the RNC is waiting to see if the White House will assert executive privilege over RNC documents at the center of the controversy, according to an outside law firm retained by the RNC.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has asserted executive privilege to block senior administration officials from testifying before Congress about their involvement in the decision to fire the federal prosecutors. Moreover, the White House has cited executive privilege in declining to turn over specific documents to Congress that may shed further light on the circumstances behind the attorney firings. The US attorneys believe they were fired for partisan political reasons.
