Roberts, the president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060815042732\/http:\/\/www.umwa.org:80\/homepage.shtml\">United Mine Workers<\/a> union, urged congressional leaders Tuesday to appoint an independent commission of experts to investigate the Utah mine collapse, saying federal regulators should not be tasked with investigating themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The call for an independent probe came on the same day that the governor of Utah <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20080404202021\/http:\/\/www.utah.gov:80\/governor\/news\/2007\/news_08_21_07a.html\">asked<\/a> federal mine officials to immediately inspect two other mines owned by Murray Energy Corp.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the least we can do to ensure that the lives lost have not been in vain,&#8221; said Gov. Jon Huntsman, a Republican.
