\nAn Experience at University of NH Republican Debate

I went to the UNH Republican debate to join the IMPEACH & anti-war activists holding signs. We were told that we had to stand in a designated area away from the Whittemore Center by two policemen. I asked them why we could not stand amongst the supporters of the various candidates near the doors, instead of being herded in a less desirable location. There were people there holding signs denouncing the “death tax,” yet we, who held signs for “peace” and “impeachment” were treated less fairly. A peace organizer asked me to not argue with the policeman and said that he was fine with standing at a distance, but I told him that I wasn’t speaking for him or his group, but for myself, and continued to press my point. I asked the policemen what was the difference between a sign with the name of a candidate and my “IMPEACH” sign with red letters that caused me to be cast off into the hinterlands? I told them that many brave men like themselves have fought and died for my right to be allowed to hold this sign with everyone else, even if the people who were using the facility didn’t approve of my message. They spoke to each other for a moment, and then they came back to me and told me I was free to go stand by the door with the others. I found a vacant spot next to the Romney-bots, one of whom demanded that I leave. He yelled at me and wagged his paw at me. It was very intimidating, and I told him so, and I told him that I understood that he wanted me to leave, but he didn’t have the authority nor the right to eject me, and if he continued to disturb the peace and scream at me, he would be harassing me. I told him that I was not going to move, no matter how loud he yelled, and informed me that he didn’t own the sidewalk. He got even angrier and louder. I asked him what his name was, because I felt he was infringing on my civil rights. He kept hollering. I informed him that his behavior was beginning to frighten me and suggested he have the police intervene on his behalf (the very same policemen I had successfully converted to my p.o.v. earlier). He shouted over to them to take me away and pointed at me. Then, when they didn’t come over, he went over to them. I couldn’t hear the discussion, but the angry young yapping puppy scampered off with his little tale between his legs.
