\nResolution of the Clallam County Democratic Central Committee Calling for the Impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney<\/p>\n
Whereas, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney have violated their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and have committed high crimes, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n
1. The President and Vice President lied to Congress and the American People about Iraq’s involvement in the 9\/11 attacks, and “fixed the intelligence” about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, thus justifying the invasion of Iraq with false and misleading statements.<\/p>\n
2. The President and Vice President secretly approved wiretaps and electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens without a court order, violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the 4th Amendment to our Constitution.<\/p>\n
3. The President and Vice President approved torturing prisoners in violation of the 8th Amendment of our Constitution and the Geneva Convention. In an act of further arrogance, the President wrote in a “signing statement”\u009d in December 2005, that he had the right to ignore Congress’ express prohibition of torture.<\/p>\n
4. The President has acted to strip Americans of their constitutional rights by ordering indefinite detention of citizens, without access to legal counsel, without charge and without opportunity to appear before a civil judicial officer to challenge the detention, based solely on the discretionary designation by the President of a U.S. citizen as an “enemy combatant,”\u009d all in subvbersion of law.<\/p>\n
5. The President has ordered and authorized the Attorney General to override judicial orders for the release of detainees under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) jurisdiction, even though the judicial officer after full hearing has determined that a detaineee is held wrongfully by the Government, and<\/p>\n
Whereas, the same Constitution that Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney have violated provides only one way for them to be charged with their crimes. The House of Representatives must investigate and charge them, through the impeachment process.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Clallam County Democratic Central Committee hereby requests, and also requests our elected officials to request, that Norm Dicks, our Representative in the House, immediately lead the effort to initiate impeachment hearings of the President and Vice President.<\/p>\n
Therefore, a copy of this Resolution shall be delivered to the following elected representatives:
\n1. United States Congressman Norm Dicks, and Congressman Inslee, McDermott, Baird, Smith, and Larsen;
\n2. United States Senators Murray and Cantwell;
\n3. State Senator Hargrove;
\n4. State Representatives Van De Wege and Kessler;
\n5. The Board of Clallam County Comissioners;
\n6. The Port Angeles City Council;
\n7. The Sequim City Council; and
\n8. The Town Council of Forks.
