{"id":819,"date":"2007-03-23T09:22:03","date_gmt":"2007-03-23T15:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/impeach_bush_blog\/?p=819"},"modified":"2017-06-06T05:03:05","modified_gmt":"2017-06-06T11:03:05","slug":"fec-democrats-say-bush-violated-limits-in-2004-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/2007\/03\/fec-democrats-say-bush-violated-limits-in-2004-election\/","title":{"rendered":"FEC Democrats Say Bush Violated Limits in 2004 Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/bushicecream1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style='float: left; margin: 0px 15px 15px 0px; width: 250px;' src=\"http:\/\/impeachforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/bushicecream.thumbnail1.jpg\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>By Matthew Mosk, Washington Post<\/p>\n<p>Friday, March 23, 2007<\/p>\n<p>The three Democrats on the Federal Election Commission revealed yesterday that they strongly believe President Bush exceeded legal spending limits during the 2004 presidential contest and that his campaign owes the government $40 million.<\/p>\n<p>Their concerns spilled out during a vote to approve an audit of the Bush campaign&#8217;s finances, which is conducted to make sure the campaign adhered to spending rules after accepting $74.6 million in public money for the 2004 general election.<\/p>\n<p>Republican commissioners defended the way the Bush campaign billed the cost of more than $80 million in television ads, which were the source of the dispute.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The commission by statute comprises three Democrats and three Republicans. Commissioner Michael E. Toner, a Republican, resigned March 14, but the vote was taken before his departure.
