Democratic Presidential candidates Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) have called for the resignation of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, citing his involvement in the seemingly politically motivated firings of U.S. attorneys.

In an interview on CNN's Situation Room, Edwards discussed Gonzales' actions. "As I understand the law what he did is not illegal. The U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States. But what he did is wrong," said Edwards. "I think Alberto Gonzales ought to be gone. He ought to either be removed or he should resign."

In an interview on ABC's Good Morning America, scheduled to air Wednesday, Sen. Clinton called for Gonzales to step down. "The buck should stop somewhere," said Clinton. "And the attorney general — who still seems to confuse his prior role as the president's personal attorney with his duty to the system of justice and to the entire country — should resign."

Their statements join the calls of other Democrats for Gonzales' resignation, including third-ranking Senate Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and national party chairman Howard Dean.
