ACLU sues DEA on behalf of truck whose money was seized
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A trucker has sued the Drug Enforcement Administration, seeking to get back nearly $24,000 seized by DEA agents earlier this month at a weigh station on U.S. 54 in New Mexico north of El Paso, Texas.
Anastasio Prieto of El Paso gave a state police officer at the weigh station permission to search the truck to see if it contained “needles or cash in excess of $10,000,” according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the federal lawsuit Thursday.
Prieto told the officer he didn’t have any needles but did have $23,700.

New Mexico’s Congress, having blocked efforts to debate impeachment, moved on to topics that can be called more legitimately, the State’s business. They cleared the slate of whether their young men & women should be dying in an illegal war, whether their citizens should be spied on, whether they should be illegally detained, tortured, etc. Instead, they cleared their docket to discuss….whether Pluto should be called a planet. Congratulations New Mexico. Way to set your priorities. Thanks to the New Mexico House of Representatives, whenever Pluto is over New Mexico, it will officially be called a planet. Perhaps we could get them to debate impeachment if the bill read, “When Bush is in New Mexico, he will officially be called an impeached president.” (Read More)

After a very thorough description of the series of events which culminated in many complicit Democratic and Republican Senators killing the New Mexico impeachment resolution after it had successfully survived the leaderships attempts to kill it in 3 committees, this open letter requests the Governer use his powers to restart the process:
Democracy for New Mexico-…Therefore, I, Joe Thornton, am appealing to your best side to use your natural born ability to persuade the Senate to reconsider/revisit SJR5 by allowing the Senate Judiciary Report to be accepted on the Senate Floor and debated and voted upon as soon as possible. This very special Senate Floor Session should be absolutely on the up and up, with no trickery or slight of hand allowed. The Senate Floor hearing should designate a specific time so We The People would be able to attend the session and observe from the gallery the hearing. It would also be proper to allow select people in the gallery to speak to the issue, either for or against, which would require some microphones up in the Senate Gallery. (Read More)
