Those expecting Kucinich to deliver harsh words about the president weren’t disappointed, as the half-hour campaign speech soon turned to talk of impeachment.
“On the way over here, I was reading a 50-page document that relates to Articles of Impeachment for the President of the United States,” Kucinich said to a standing ovation. “And I want you to know that I’m actually preparing this document for submission to the House.”
Kucinich said under the current administration, citizen’s rights to due process and fair trial are in jeopardy.
“This is a moment when we’re called upon to reclaim our country,” he said. “You give me your vote, I’ll give you back your country.”
David Swanson, Democrats.com — Christiane Brown (KJFK, Reno) interviews Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in this audio clip from last week and presses him on why he admits impeachable offenses have been commited but opposes impeachment. Reid says that impeaching Bush would just give you Cheney, but Brown points out that Cheney can be impeached too (in fact, the only impeachment bill in Congress right now is to impeach Cheney). Reid says there’s not enough time, but Brown points out how swift past impeachments have been. Reid struggles and fails to find a coherent explanation.

Demonstrators Protest Bush, Iraq War
Reporter: Sandra Chereb AP
Demonstrators lined an intersection outside a convention hall Tuesday, carrying signs and beating pots and pans, to protest the Iraq war and President Bush, who was inside to address the American Legion National Convention.
The crowd of protesters grew under a hot sun from a handful to about 125. Many wore T-shirts that read “Impeach” and carried signs denouncing the president’s stance on Iraq.
The demonstration was organized by Americans Against Escalation
in Iraq. The group is part of a national campaign targeting lawmakers, including U.S. Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., who back the administration’s war policies.
The group invited Heller to a town hall meeting Tuesday night to discuss his views on the war, but he was not expected to attend, a group spokeswoman said.

Well before and ever since his infamously secretive Energy Policy meeting in 2000, Vice President Richard Cheney has actively tried to mislead American opinion. He arrogantly believes that his “former association” with war-profiteering Haliburton, his 2002 effort to persuade the CIA to make unsubstantiated reports about Saddam’s possession of WMD, his sly encouragement of the outing of CIA operative Valerie Wilson and his recently reported stealth in undermining any White House staffer advice with which he disagrees can go undetected or overlooked by the American people.
A quick U.S. congressional impeachment of this modern day Robespierre would do much to restore our tarnished global image and act as a moral catharsis for the nation.
