NH Dems Pass Impeachment Resolution

Filed under: Impeachment Progress News,New Hampshire — Jodin Morey @ 6:20 pm

Maryellen Martin, Manchester, NH – At the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention, Saturday, in spite of every possible roadblock thrown in her path by party leaders to prevent it, Rep. Betty Hall’s Resolution to Commence Impeachment Procedures was adopted.

The message sent by the people is the first step of this Constitutional Procedure – BEGIN INVESTIGATIONS NOW to determine if there is sufficient cause/evidence to hold our current elected leaders in Washington responsible.

The Governor came and went, Howard Dean came and went, the same for the Congressional candidates and state politicos during a long stint in a packed gymnasium on a glorious spring weekend day which began at 8:30 am. In the very last minutes of the convention, about 4:00 pm, the Democratic party leaders let the vote for the Hall Impeachment Resolution and the town of Newbury Accountability Resolution take place.

Representative Betty Hall gave 2 of her 3 allotted minutes to the only speaker who was merely a citizen delegate. She was the people’s one lone grassroots speaker, who was not a leadership pick or an official.

Her name is Nan; imagine her lone, quiet voice finally getting a chance to say something after all the “notables”. She spoke, and even sang her support, and the room erupted!

Betty Hall’s impeachment resolution asking for the support of the Democratic Party of NH passed. The people’s voice was finally heard!

Unlike the rest of the day, it was an unscripted, spontaneous expression of celebration, standing and cheering in support of Rep. Hall’s resolution to begin investigations and, at the very least, lay out the facts.

The delegates heard what they wanted to hear and with their vote confirmed, they want truth and accountability from our government!

Above the heads of the speakers was a huge banner that read: HOPE LEADERSHIP VICTORY. The peoples’ delegates proclaimed all three.

The People Get It.

May 20 update

Representative Betty Hall will make a motion to remove HR24 from the table on Wednesday, May 21, 2008: Concord, New Hampshire – State House Session: Today, New Hampshire is the state known for the first Primary, a “Live Free or Die” attitude and most importantly the Right of Revolution under Article 10 of the State Constitution – now braves the option to ask State Legislators to consider the New Hampshire tradition of full and open debate – on HR24 – asking for investigations to begin for impeachment proceedings in the US Congress, NOW!

On Wednesday, May 21, HR24 will change slightly with an amendment to apply the peoples wishes to include Checks and Balances in government and Accountability from our leaders. HR24 will be more simple and direct to reflect how the Constitution calls for the voice of the People to be heard.

That is why we support HR24, because HR24 supports our leaders oath of office as called for in the Constitution.

Now, at this time, the Democratic Leadership is in a position to fully support Rep. Hall’s impeachment effort due to the Party’s obligation to promote the results in a statewide effort, as the People of the Democratic party passed Rep Hall’s resolution at this weekend’s State Convention, calling for impeachment investigation to begin.

What we can do, today:

To make sure we get Democratic leadership support, contact the NHDP office and confirm Party support for Rep Hall’s Resolution to commence Impeachment procedures in the US Congress. Passage at the party level also produced the following responsibility of the NH Democratic Party:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a copy of this resolution with the original authorizing signature of the Secretary of State and of the New Hampshire State Democratic Party be sent to the Office of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and that copies of the signed resolution be sent to each member of the United States Senate and House of Representatives and to each member of the New Hampshire State Legislature.

Please, politely, ask for Party support. Think about letting the Party know – your plan to run for office? – to be a NH Representative? and how we rely on the Party to reflect the Voice of the People, as the Constitution tells us.

And print, sign and gather signatures for our Petition for Redress of Grievance, throughout the State. See Attached PDF. Date and mail back to address at bottom of page.

As we all pull together, we can help pass HR24 at the State House, go over the top and experience carrying the resolution to Washington, DC, for investigations to begin with the blessing of the People of New Hampshire . . . . . and our progressive attitude of “Live Free and Never Give Up” and especially our “Right of Revolution”.

We expect Truth and Accountability in government.

Thanks to All, for your unending support. HR24 deserves the traditional full debate. Our Country deserves a full debate.

Hope to see everybody at the State House in Concord on Wednesday, May 21. Approx, time between 10:00 am and 2:00 – not much later because there is an Ice Cream Social planned for the afternoon.

New Hampshire Libertarians endorse impeachment resolution

Filed under: Impeachment Progress News,New Hampshire — Mikael @ 12:02 pm

lp_website.gifFrom the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire:

At their April board meeting, the Libertarian Party of NH officially endorsed NH House Resolution 24, which calls for impeachment procedures to start against President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

The resolution is based on rules from the Jefferson Manual of Parliamentary Practice, which states that impeachment proceedings may be initiated by the legislature of a state.

The resolution states many reasons to warrant the start of an impeachment including pressuring states to implement electronic voting, violations of FISA and the Geneva Conventions, for advocating the indefinite detainment of American citizens, warrantless wiretaps of American citizens, and for various actions taken during the conflict in Iraq.

A resolution of this form re-asserts the important role that individual states play in our federalist system, placing a further check against federal-level power and actions, in the executive branch or otherwise.

HR24 is currently awaiting a vote by the full House at their next general session. You can read the text of HR24 [here].

Daniel Ellsberg to Headline Historic Impeachment Event in Concord

Brookline, NH – NH State Representative Betty Hall is hosting Dr. Daniel Ellsberg, Vietnam War critic, for a special event at the Capitol Center for the Arts Monday April 14 at 7pm. It was Ellsberg who released the Pentagon papers which helped end the Vietnam War. Ellsberg will be headlining a group of supporters for Betty Hall’s HR24, which, if passed in the NH House would ask the US House to begin an investigation to verify if there is sufficient cause to hold our government leaders responsible, as provided in Jefferson’s Manual, Section 603. Hall’s petition specifically cites President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. The historic vote will come to the NH House on Wednesday, April 16.

If passed, it will represent the first time that a state legislature would have invoked the special privilege to ask the US House for investigations to begin with a President and Vice-President. It does not need to be passed through the NH Senate, nor obtain the signature of NH Governor Lynch.

Hall has stated, “My failure to vote for the NH House Resolution for the Nixon Impeachment is the absolutely biggest regret of my legislative career. That is why I am so dedicated to doing this now.”

Also present will be former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, who served under President Lyndon B. Johnson; Dr. Robert Bowman, who was the director of the Star Wars missile defense program under Presidents Ford and Carter; John Nichols, writer for The Nation magazine and author of “The Genius of Impeachment: The Founders’ Cure for Royalism”; Phil Burk, businessman and impeachment scholar who is versed in the rules of law outlined in Jefferson’s Manual. Other dignitaries are rescheduling commitments to attend the historic gathering, which is open to the public.

Speakers are scheduled for a 4 pm press conference at the restored Victorian mansion, Kimball House, as well as a 5:30 pm reception with NH State Representatives who will be able to personally exchange opinions with the honored guests.

The public is invited to contact the Capitol Center for the Arts for tickets (225-1111) for the Monday April 14, 7pm event; tickets go on sale Monday, April 7. Free on street parking and free parking at the Capital Commons Garage on Storrs Street, after 5:00.

New Hampshire resident calls of Bush, Cheney impeachment

Filed under: Impeachment Related Oped,New Hampshire — Mikael @ 11:01 am

new-hampshire.gifNashua Telegraph

President Bush, Cheney should be impeached

It’s been five years since this corrupt and irresponsible administration has set its well-documented, years-old global domination plans into motion by attacking and occupying Iraq.

In doing so, it has lied to the American people, lied to Congress, lied to the United Nations and lied to the world.

It has displayed the most egregious degree of cronyism in history and lined the pockets of favored members of the military industrial complex with billions of dollars in blood money.

Meanwhile, it has played on the fears and the patriotism of ordinary Americans, blinding them with false information, intimidating truth tellers and dismantling the very basis of what defines this country ““ our Constitution.

The administration is in league with countries that have terrorist sympathies, nuclear weapons and serious human rights violations.

There are more impeachable offenses to list than space permits. We all know what they are. What are we going to do about it?

Our “representatives” have not acted on our behalf. Government of, by and for the people has been erased by a flawed system that has allowed power and money to circumvent the checks and balances so brilliantly devised by our founding fathers.

I urge every reader of this letter to contact our elected representatives, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (1-202-225-5456) and Rep. Paul Hodes (1-202-225-5206), as well as Speaker of the House Nancy “off the table” Pelosi (sf.nancy@mail.house.gov), and ask them to do what they were elected to do, what they are bound to do by their oath of office: impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney

More locally, impeachment resolution HR 24 is expected to go to the floor of the New Hampshire House of Representatives this month. Show your support for this wakeup call to the U.S. House sponsored by Rep. Betty Hall, D-Brookline, by e-mailing your thoughts to I.Support.HR24@gmail.com.

Your tangible expression including name and city will be submitted to the Legislature for consideration. The text of the bill can be found at www. gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2008/ hr0024.html.

At the very least, read the bill. Either there is a tremendous lack of awareness or a frightening level of apathy going on in this country due to shell shock, distraction or a feeling of powerlessness.

Despite the complicit press, we have all known more than enough to demand impeachment for a very long time. If we do not act, the damage will be irreparable.

If we do, perhaps we can restore our national pride and global reputation by shouting loudly and clearly that we do not stand for these kinds of lies, crimes and aggression, but rather that we reconfirm our country’s foundation and our commitment to the spirit of individual human rights and freedoms guaranteed by our founders through their intended prohibition of these abuses of power.

Are we a nation of sheep or of patriots? Don’t be a lemming. Make your voice heard.

Bush's Defense
Arguments Against Bush Impeachment...

• If we impeach Bush, we’ll get President Cheney!
The first impeachment resolution introduced by McKinney included Bush, Cheney, and Rice. Although, even if we only initially pursue Bush, initiating the impeachment process will lead to an investigation that will implicate lots of people in the Bush administration who are guilty of committing crimes, including Cheney.

No matter who we get to replace Bush, we’ll be showing those in power that anyone who breaks the law will be held accountable.

• Promoting impeachment will seem too “extreme.”
Demanding that crimes be investigated is NOT extreme. Some previous impeachment attempts were considered extreme because they were pursued for actions that didn't rise to the level of a Constitutional crisis, which is what the impeachment tool is meant to be used for. Nixon's impeachment, however, was bipartisan.

  • We should wait to impeach...
Wait to impeach? We've waited 3 or more years too long already. We had enough evidence to impeach years ago. Remember, an impeachment only means you have enough evidence to warrant a trial, just like an indictment. Our congress people didn't take an oath to bipartisanship. They took an oath to the Constitution. Besides which, our troops, Iraqi civilians, and our own civil liberties are all waiting for this.

• Before we impeach, we should get some legislation passed...
And with unconstitutional Presidential Signing Statements, veto power, and the power of "Commander in Chief" at his disposal, how do you think Congress is going to get anything accomplished without first impeaching Bush?

If your tire blows while you're driving, do you stop to fix it? Or do you continue driving on your rim because to stop would take too much time?

• It hurts the democracy to go through a presidential impeachment. And Bush is a lame duck anyway.
Holding government officials accountable for their actions strengthens our democracy. Letting lawlessness stand weakens it.

Sometimes reprimanding a child (president) doesn't make the family (Washington) a happy place. But you still have to do it so the child and his siblings (future presidents) learn about accountability. Impeachment is horribly UNDERUSED, which is part of why there's so much corruption at the top. Politicians must learn to fear it. People think things are better because we improved the make-up of our law-making body, Congress. But Bush is BREAKING LAWS. So, it doesn't matter how many laws Congress passes if they don't serve their OVERSIGHT duties as well by impeaching. They swore to defend the Constitution. What are laws without enforcement?

Besides, considering Bush's track-record of breaking laws, he can still do a lot of damage. Our troops, Iran, and our Supreme Court are all endangered so long as he remains in office. Waiting until Bush is out of office will leave us complicit in any further crimes he commits. The Union of Concerned Scientists has estimated that the death toll from a "tactical" nuclear weapon of the kind Bush is contemplating using in Iran would be at minimum 3 million men, women, and children. The path of death would stretch across country boundaries into India.

Perhaps worst of all, we set a terrible precedent by allowing Bush to stay in office after he's broken so many laws. Impeachment will stop future presidents from using Bush's actions as justification for even more lawbreaking and erosion of civil liberties.

• I'm a Democrat/
Republican. If we support impeachment it will lower the chances of my party winning in 2008.

So, your party would rather win elections than do what's right for the country? I hope you're wrong. I also hope the public is willing to throw additional support to any party that holds our elected officials accountable for their actions. This has been historically true with every single impeachment effort launched. And this impeachment effort would begin with majority support (unlike most past impeachments including Nixon).

• Impeachment will never happen. Congress members will block it.
Well, all we need is a majority of support in the House. And 2/3rds vote in the Senate to remove Bush from office will happen once the evidence gets aired on the floor of the House, and subsequently the national media outlets. The political pressure will become too great.

Today's impossibility is tomorrow's reality. Congress members will realize that tying their political future to Bush reduces their chances of getting elected. Remember, one way or another, Bush is gone by 2009— but members of Congress may retain their offices beyond that date. Bush's poll numbers are extremely low, and most Americans support impeachment. This is a bipartisan movement. This means that if we make the pressure unbearable for Members of Congress, they'll turn on him to keep their own seats (like they did with Nixon). It's already starting to happen. While many Members of Congress have behaved unethically in the last few years, it's important to understand that this is related to their warped view of what's in their self-interest. Let's wake them up to their true self-interest (impeaching the president), by showing them our support for impeachment.

And even if we only impeach, and the Senate fails to do their duty and remove him from office, it will only implicate the Senators who fail to do their sworn Constitutional duty.

• But Speaker of the House Pelosi said that Impeachment was "off the table."

Pelosi most likely said this to remove any appearance of conflict-of-interest that would arise if she were thrust into the presidency as a result of the coming impeachment. What we need to do is to pressure Pelosi not to interfere with impeachment maneuverings within her party. Sending her Do-It-Yourself impeachments legitimizes her when she joins the impeachment movement in the future.
