Massachusetts Democrats Pass Impeachment Resolution!

Telegram.com — Massachusetts Democrats yesterday joined a growing chorus of Democrats across the country who have called for the impeachments of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The 2,500 delegates to the party’s state convention approved the impeachment resolution by a nearly unanimous voice vote. The original motion, based on legislation filed by U.S. Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, D-Ohio, singled out Mr. Cheney. In a close vote, party faithful added Mr. Bush’s name before taking their definitive vote for impeachment.

State party Chairman John Walsh said the vote reflects the frustration Democrats have experienced over the Bush administration’s refusal to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Mr. Walsh singled out congressional Democrats, particular. (More)

  1. I was a guest at the convention, and I have a couple of minor clarifications.

I believe there are about 2500 delegates, but it looked more like 1000 at the convention. I helped gather signatures to put the approved impeachment measure before the delegates. There were TWO impeachment resolutions to be voted on: the first to come up was to support Kucinich’s HR 333 (impeach Cheney) it was ‘amended’ to have it’s language replaced by the 2nd measure.

Now Massachusetts voters need to strongly remind their congressmen of this party endorsement! In addition, another resolution – to withdraw from Iraq – was passed overwhelmingly. The actual wording of both resolution (without the ‘whereases’):

    1. The voters of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention call upon the Massachusetts delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate these charges and if the investigation supports the charges, vote to impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney as provided in the Constitution of the United States of America.

    2. The Massachusetts Democratic Party urges its Senators and Congressmen in Washington to support vigorously the enactment as soon as possible of HR 1234 and to emphasize in so doing the utter immorality of allowing US troops and innocent Iraqis to die and be maimed in a war that is harming rather than enhancing US national security and honor.

[HR 1234 was introduced by Dennis Kucinich and calls for complete withdrawal of troops within 3 months or enactment.]
