A new poll conducted by www.americanresearchgroup.com finds that 54% of American adults want the US House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney, including 76% of Democrats, 17% of Republicans, and 51% of Independents. The same poll found 46% of voters in favor of the same thing for President George W. Bush, including 69% of Democrats, 13% of Republicans, and 50% of independents.
The poll also asked about Bush’s commuting of I Lewis Scooter Libby’s sentence, and found that 31% of Americans approve, and 11% would approve of a full pardon.

Were you really in Iraq? When and where? If they are in “much better shape” as you claim, why do 75% of Iraqis want us to leave immediately? Why do more than 50% of Iraqis believe that violence against American soldiers is justified? Why did the Iraqi parliament recently pass a resolution telling us to get the hell out of their country? Why did all four of Bush’s own security agencies agree that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has created “a breeding ground for terrorists” where one didn’t exist before? Why did those same agencies agree unanimously that we are less safe rather than more safe due to this misguided attack and occupation?
Hindsight is 20/20? Everyone in the know about the Middle East advised Bush against the invasion and occupation but he listened to nobody informed and intelligent.
They didn’t “make the best decisions the could at the time”, they lied in order to gain access to the world’s second largest untapped oil reserves for their oil baron cronies.
This is what happens when “uneducated, ignorant” Americans allow petroleum industry executives to take over the White House by bloodless coup in Florida in 2000 and retain it in like manner in 2004 in Ohio.
They lied, cheated, stole and have done incredible damage to our nation, the Constitution and our national respect as a whole. This precident must not be allowed to stand. They must be held fully accountable, impeached and removed from office and then suffer whatever further legal measures are appropriate after the fact.
NO, they should not be impeached. This should be the last thing on our minds. Comparing what Clinton did to our reputation as a country (affair) to Bush trying to make a better and safer place for us and the Iraqi’s is ludicrous! How many of you have actually been to Iraq? How many of you know Iraqi’s? After spending 19 months in that country, I can tell you they and we are all in much better shape. We must now allow the Iraqi’s to take control of their country and pull out but you all are forgetting that hindsight is always 20/20. Don’t make yourself out to be a uneducated, ignorant American that a lot of people think we are. They made the best decisions they could at the time and while now it may not be best, we are in this as a whole and we should get out of it as a whole. Let’s support our elected officials but push for better policy and making the best decisions at this time.

Interesting that you bring up minimum levels of intelligence and understanding to decide who gets to vote. In the 2006 election, the states that went Red were the lower education level states, the Blue states the higher education levels – almost exactly divided.
The better answer is to strengthen our education and to restore the Fairness Doctrine to get the media back to some semblance of integrity and honesty.

Politicians are all bad. Understand the words before you react though. As a Constitutionally driven Republic with a democratic form of elections and representation the founders did not want politicians. They just freed themselves from lords and aristocracy in Europe. Hell some of them were the elite and saw that was not the way to continue on and endowed the us (the United States) with a better way. They gave us a charter, a constitution. Where citizens would serve short terms managing the duties of State and staying out of the business of just being a citizen. After serving they would go back to being a citizen, not a member of the court or ruling family, and get on with their lives. Not become a ruling parasite over the ruled. Yes ruled is more appropriate today then governed. What we have now is not what the founders envisioned. They also realized the necessity for people with the power to vote must have basic skills, knowledge of the issues and some common sense as a prerequisite to vote. To read and write so they could participate in our culture. Read and write in English as a common backbone that the civilized world was being built upon. On the majority, to be a free man and property owner you had a basic education gained through some form of Sunday school or religious order. You could read and write. They were capable of understanding issues that effected their rights, property and liberty. We would do much better today as a country to go back to some legitimate form of voter eligibility requirements. Not some prejudice based on color, religion, ethnicity, gender or party but possessing the basic tools to interact in our society. Read and write in English. Common sense, basic awareness and a capacity of understanding the world around us is not too much to ask for the right to influence our nation. Basic literacy needed to vote so they understand the power of that vote.
Some would flush what we have inherited for political correctness – BULL. Citizens, yes legal citizens, should be required to have an understanding of our American culture and be a participant in it. We are at war. Stop learning what to think from the movies or some hack on a news broadcast and look at reality. Understand that there are issues we all do not see or understand but a divided house our enemies do understand. And politics, ignorance and the damn ME FIRST attitude of too many of us will defeat us. They (our enemies) won’t but we can and will.

It isn’t about getting someone to “do a better job”, it is about the fact that this administration has conspired to destroy the Constitution and has violated American and international law in starting a war of aggression against a country that held no immediate threat against our national security – and lied to the American people and lied to congress in order to do so.
Incompetence in and of itself is not generally regarded as an impeachable offense – although a case could be made for that, especially as relating to neglect in responding to Hurricane Katrina victims.
On the other hand, Treason (outing of active U.S. Intelligence officer Valerie Plame), Bribery (no-bid contracts benefiting not just Cheney and Bush cronies but their own bank accounts as well, eventually) and Crimes and Misdemeanors (initiating a War of Aggression, Lying to Congress, Spying on Americans, detaining indefinitely and torturing war prisoners – even some Americans while denying them legal counsel and other basic rights ARE ALL IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES.

Right Wing radio talk shows that cover 91% of the market and infect how people get their political opinions–they certainly don’t do it independently–are the only reason Bush/Cheney cabal is still in power. Who pays for those right wing voices/opinions will have to be undercut before “the people” have a chance to do anything worthwhile–like impeach, or whatever–for the overall good of this country. Rationalism is undercut by the constant propaganda we get every day, but it’s rational thought and actions that will make a difference.
It seems ludicrous that President Clinton was put through the impeachment process because of his “affair” with an intern, a personal act which had no bearings on the welfare of the country, whereas, Mr. Bush and Mr. Chaney led us into a war on false pretenses, squandered the lives of many young men and women, cost the country it’s prestige, it’s ideals sullied, stretched the limits and the morale of our Armed Forces, and cost the taxpayers almost a trillion dollars which could have gone into our interstructure, such a schools, health care etc. Yes, I think Mr. Chaney should be impeached, Mr. Bush certainly, but unwise during wartime.

Do you not believe that the American people – now aware that Dick Cheney lied to get us into war with Iraq for personal profit and gain, outed an active CIA officer during wartime (treason) and has committed multiple other impeachable and criminal offenses – want to see Cheney impeached and removed from office?

The last I checked 54% was a majority compared to 40%. Why then isn’t this murdering, lying thief OUT or AT LEAST on his way out?! Impeachment is not enough. Most members of the Bush Administration, including the President and especially the Vice-President, should be tried for treason and publicly executed on the Capitol Mall at high noon, and the executions should be televised, just as Saddam Hussein’s was. The damage they have done and continue to do to our country and Constitution is unforgivable, and there are legal steps in place to deal with this problem. Now if we can only get the public to care about this, and the totally ineffectual Congress to take action, we may stand a chance of the USA weathering this storm of corruption and blatant disregard for the law.
