Rosie O’Donnell asks 30 million ABC viewers: “What do you have to do to get impeached in this country?”

“Nearly everyone in this administration is under indictment or suspicion, nearly every person, from Karl Rove, to Rumsfeld, to Gonzales. What do you have to do to get impeached in this country? What do you have to do?” – Rosie O’Donnell on “The View” March 29th, 2007

  17. steel doesn’t need to be melted for the buildings to collapse.. only weakened.. steel loses 50% of it’s strength at 1100 degrees F at jet fuel burns at 800-1500. Also, there were other catalysts in the building (papers, sofas, rugs…) that attributes to an increased temperature.

    Comment by Louis — March 31, 2007 @ 6:14 pm

  21. JP,

    Steel losing 50% of its strength in no way accounts for the ‘pancaking’ of the twin towers occuring at free fall speed. Weakened steel in the core columns would bend or fall over to one side, it would never sever, compress or snap. At the very least tall remnants of the core columns would have remained.

    There are dozens of reports out from engineers disputing the Popular Mechanics article.

    WTC 7, which Rosie was commenting on, was not struck by an airplane and was too far away for the fire inside it to be from jet fuel. It did, however, house all the paper trail evidence for the World Com fraud investigations and many others – now lost forever. It also housed Rudy Giuliani’s emergency bunker, which he chose not to go to in this emergency. The owner, Larry Silverstein, added insurance coverage to include “acts of terror” six weeks prior to 9/11. Silverstein was quoted as saying that “the decision was made to pull Tower Seven” on television. “Pulling” is a common phrase used in the demolition industry to describe a building being razed by controlled demolition explosives.

    Dozens of eyewitnesses described explosions in the basement of each of the three towers prior to falling.

    Trace elements of thermite or thermate were discovered in “the ruin” even after most of the steel had been removed. Thermate and thermite are used to weaken steel prior to demolitions.

    Here is what I want to know: Why did the Bush Administration sandbag and resist the starting of an investigation for 441 days? Why did Bush & Cheney continue to suppress every effort to investigate thoroughly? Why was the 9/11 Commission a presidential commission rather than an independent one? Why was only about 10% of the amount of money used to attempt to impeach Bill Clinton allocated for the entire 9/11 investigation? With mountains of proof of prior knowledge (investments, intelligence reports from dozens of other countries, now BBC reporting the collapse of WTC 7 26 minutes PRIOR to it falling) why has their been no further investigation? Why did Bush & Cheney only agree to being interviewed together, off the record, in secret, by a hand-picked group from among their original hand-picked commission members? Why was all the evidence from the worst crime ever on American soil scraped up and loaded onto barges and sent to be melted down before being thoroughly investigated?

    See: 9/11: Press for Truth or on YouTube, currently here: YouTube 9:11: Press for Truth although it keeps getting removed and moved.

    This movie is about widows of some men who died on 9/11 and their frustrating quest for truth from the Bush Administraion.

    If the Bush Administration has nothing to hide, why are they hiding everything?

  22. From the way I see things, our way of society along with our country are collapsing. America has doesn’t represent anything anymore other than mildly controlled anarchy. This country obviously has no morals, no common sense, no respect, dwindling intelligence, no tradition to truly call our own as it is all about the immigrants, and most of all………no balls. Have I covered everything? We have been hated by other countries since we declared our independence over 200 years ago. Why should anyone like us? We’re the youngest nation and have stuck our nose into just about every inch of foreign soil that exists. My point is that our country and our leaders are only as good as the homes, families, and the society that breeds them. “Garbage in, garbage out” as George Carlin says. I’m just waiting for us to either be taken over from within our own country, get blown off the map, or just move elsewhere on this planet.

    Here is the funny thing………..you drones think that by getting rid of Bush and getting another “President” in office that things will get better. Get a grip and wake the f*ck up! The only way for things to get better is to clean out the entire Senate, Congress, and the President and his cabinet. Think that’s EVER going to happen?

  25. JJ,

    Every member of Congress that voted for the Military Commissions Act violated their oath of office to “uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC”. Once Bush and Cheney are removed, the push to impeach and recall the rest will commence.

    If they recant their vote and explain it, I’ll consider easing off. If they stand by it, they stand to be held accountable.

  26. Robert, fyi, with regards to the jet fuel, she was talking about world trade center building 7, not either of the two towers. The official report from FEMA said it collapsed due to structural damage cause by fire. There was no jet fuel in those buildings. Im not a conspiracy theorist, but that the explanation is a little weak….

  34. 1. The US punative expedition against Iraq was a fraud from the start. The Bush administration explicitly used the 9/11 attacks to justify invading Iraq and now denies any connection.

    2. The Bush administration has stolen two election, blatantly lied to the public and committed specific crimes for which no one has attempted to hold them responsible. It is fair to say that they have forfieted the public’s trust.

    3. There is no “War on Terror”. It is a misnomer that the US administration used to justify a long list of criminal actions. The 9/11 attacks were not part of an orchestrated campaign against the US, but a single action carried out by a small, isolated splinter group of the Islamic fundamentalist movement. The absurd over-reaction of the US to 9/11 turned bin Laden into a hero to fundamentalists and an act of madness into an inspiration that incited other, unconnected groups to mount similar attacks, like the bombings in London. Good police and intelligence work could have destroyed Osama bin Laden and his very small group of followers at a relatively tiny expense of resources, probably without the sacrifice of any lives.

    4. The US media has followed the White House line with an appalling lack of questioning or investigation. As a result, the average US citizen still thinks that their army is in Iraq to avenge 9/11 (see Why We Fight). International media has been much more sceptical and provided a far more objective and informative perspective.

    5. The US is actually one of the world’s younger democracies and has operated as an imperial power since the advent of the Monroe Doctrine. In 1953 the CIA overthrew a democtratically elected government in Iran that nationalized an Iranian oil industry that was profiting UK and US oil companies, but not Iranians. The legitimate government was replaced with a US-friendly dictator. The Iranian people have good reason to be angry and view the US as hypocritical.

    6. National security advisor to the Carter administration, Zbigniew Brzezinski, has commented that for the 9/11 attacks to take place, a wildly improbable series of failures would have to have occurred simultaneously in various parts of the US security establishment and, therefore, it had to be an inside job at some level. Too much is unexplained, including manufactured obstacles and lack of White House co-operation that hampered the investigation. There is genuine reason to ask whether or not bin Laden and his followers were just impossibly lucky.

    The US has a perception of itself as a beacon unto the world of freedom and justice. It is the only country in the world that has that perception.

    Comment by Caden — March 31, 2007 @ 7:13 pm

  36. Jewells,

    Your fears are understandable but unfounded. Please read our explanation of why the threat of another President Dick isn’t of concern, read this from our face page as the very first two arguments against impeachment that we answer:

    Arguments Against Bush Impeachment…

    • If we impeach Bush, we’ll get President Cheney!
    The most recent impeachment resolution introduced by McKinney included Bush, Cheney, and Rice. Although, even if we only initially pursue Bush, initiating the impeachment process will lead to an investigation that will implicate lots of people in the Bush administration who are guilty of committing crimes, including Cheney.

    As a popular movement, we believe that the strategy of going after both of them right off the bat would bring nay-sayers to the table asking for the evidence against Cheney. Not that there isn’t evidence, but the evidence is less known, and more of it is hidden. This would only make our case less clear, and cause less people to be approving of it. More people agree about the need to impeach Bush, than about the need to impeach both of them. And, since the evidence against Cheney would come out in any trial against Bush, we find it strategically unnecessary to include him initially.

    In addition, no matter who we get to replace Bush, we’ll be showing those in power that anyone who breaks the law will be held accountable.

    ~~~
    Of more immediate concern is a scenario in which Cheney resigns, is replaced by a Bush appointee (Brownback? Jeb Bush? Giuliani? Rice?), approved by Congress, then Bush is impeached or steps down and we are stuck with a President and a new Vice President with the same horrible agenda, those greatly expanded Executive authority powers…
    …boom…
    Another ‘attack of terror’ and the whole country is locked down for good. Kiss your rights goodbye. Hello fascist state, midnight arrests and the rest of the crackdown.
  37. Has it occurred to any of you nutjob liberals that your agenda mirrors al-Queda, pretty much point for point?
    Comment by James — March 31, 2007 @ 7:15 pm
  38. This is hilarious.
    The 9-11 video that investigates whether the Towers fell due to demolition is here:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6708190071483512003&q=911&hl=en
    They make a pretty good case. Very interesting is the sysad for a major banking center at the WTC who had to completely shutdown all systems in the week before 9-11 when they did a TOTAL powerdown of BOTH buildings, AND completely disabled all the security monitoring such as cameras. He took 9-11 off after working around the clock to restore the systems in the previous three days. He immediately saw the connection between the shutdown and the collapse. People reporting hearing drilling, and seeing men laying cabling throughout the building during the shutdown. The footage clearly shows explosions coming from the basement of the towers before the collapse. The fire from the plane impacts has been analyzed and shown to be only half the temperature needed to melt steel. Support beams were found cut at precisely the angle necessary for a controlled implosion making the buildings fall EXACTLY into their footprints. Images are shown of other skyscrapers gutted by fire, none of which collapsed, but some of which started to fall over sideways (NOT straight in on themselves).
    The WTC was designed to withstand MULTIPLE impacts from a Boeing 707 full of fuel. The physics of the lattice work outer steel made a mesh that would contain the impact of a jetliner, just as actually happened.
    Mr Silverstein made 7 BILLION DOLLARS off the insurance settlement by claiming TWO acts of terrorism, which coverage he just had added to the policy a few weeks earlier. President Bush’s cousin, by “coincidence” acquired part ownership of the Towers in 1999, so he also made an undisclosed sum of money off the settlement. Shortly after 9-11, he sold his interest in the WTC property.
    Then there’s WTC 7, where Guiliani should have been if he had followed established emergency procedures (somehow he knew not to be in there), which collapsed without any outside assistance, and which contained mountains of evidence against World Com, Exxon, and possibly communications recordings about the Towers themselves in the weeks before 9-11. And of course Silverstein himself announcing beforehand that WTC 7 was to be “pulled.”
    Now Guiliani wants to run for President on the claim that he’s a hero of 9-11. One moment while grab the air-sickness bag, please.
    There’s just too much fishy smelling crap surrounding the whole thing if you ask me.
    I feel sorry for the blonde in the video above. It’s tough being a brainwashed “true believer”.
    You mean al-CIAda? Remember that Osama bin Laden was (is?) a CIA-trained operative. His family and the Bush family are long-time business partners. HW Bush was meeting with members of the bin Laden family on September 11th, 2001. Bin Laden family members were flown out of the country during the time period when our skies were completely shut down to air traffic – this despite huge objections by FBI agents who wanted to question them before they returned to Saudi Arabia.
  41. if a fool like rosie is able to see through bush, there must be something to impeachment arguement.
    Comment by Shelly — March 31, 2007 @ 7:33 pm
  42. The President doesn’t come up with these ideas to go to war, it’s the CIA. The CIA creates coups, the CIA creates the fuel to run the war. It’s not so much about Corporate profit, as it is to re-enforce and ensure the authority of America. Resisting war, means that America will slip through the cracks and fall behind leaving another country to take its place. This type of system is one that was used for Imperialism by the British, and the US has adopted it and instead of creating ‘colonies’, they create ‘puppet gov’ts’ which they use to remotely control these countries, along with foreign aid (WHO) and peacekeeping troops (UN).
    The Bush Administration has done a lot of bad things, but it’s ignorant for the people to believe that they can impeach the entire administration and gain relatively more peace. The reason for this is that you need to impeach/remove the CIA and the Pentagon, they are the true reasons that America is in the shape that it is today – they intentionally instigate marginalized groups in other countries, and try to incite them to acts of terrorism, war or genocide. You can impeach the president, impeach the vice president, kick out all the republicans and democrats, but if you don’t do something to minimize the power of the CIA and Pentagon – the system will rebuild itself and the American people will once again be duped. A day without a bullet being fired somewhere in the world, is a day where America’s economy and stability disappears, sorry but that’s the way the nation was built.
    @Will Johnson
    Clinton was not impeached, there was a trial to do so but ultimately they decided not to impeach him because public appeal and opinion wanted him to stay.
It is as if facts are not interesting enough to get ratings, we must oversimplify and yell misinformation at one and other to get on TV. The oldest democracy, what a joke; a terrible, frightening joke.
    Comment by Matt L. — March 31, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
  44. James, care to elaborate? Are you saying that Al-Queda wants us to restore our civil liberties? To return to the rule of law? To have an administration that tells the truth? To have our country respected again by the freedom-loving nations of the world? I haven’t heard Bin Laden bring any of those topics up in his speeches.
    The sad part is that Bush has been the one to work in lock-step with Al-Queda’s agenda. Bin Laden hoped we would stop paying attention to Afghanistan, hoped we would invade Iraq, hoped we would stay long enough to wear out our welcome, and hoped that we would so mess things up that we would unite the Muslim world in opposition to us. The president has given him everything he wanted. We had the sympathy and cooperation of almost the entire world on September 12, and managed to throw it all away. What an incredible victory for Al-Queda, and all they had to do was sit back and watch.
    The impeachment was by a Republican House.
    The acquittal was by a Democratic Senate.
    Lying under oath should very well have led to removal from office. The initial accusations were ridiculous, however.
  56. sorry, i’m still on the melting steel thing…
    i failed to mention that i am an engineer as well. I only cited the popular mechanics article so nobody would think i’m just talking out of my ass…
    but without that.. let’s think of it from a common sense point of view.
    while melted steel will, as Mikael said, bend and sag but never snap.. keep in mind that everything in this world can only bend so far. When bent, it’s ability to hold weight diminishes even further (just think about a ruler, trying to hold something up while bent).
    now when the first floor collapses, it adds more weight to the steel below it.. which causes the floor to collapse, which adds more weight to the steel below that, and causes the floor below that to collapse.. and so on… this is the so called “pancake effect”
    keep in mind that when these top floors collapse, it’s not just adding the weight of the floor to it’s current weight load.. (i.e. it’s not a constant force).. the only way i can explain this is layman’s terms is to imagine yourself jumping flat-footed onto a scale in your bathroom. Obviously the scale would output more than just your weight, at first. Now imagine jumping from the roof of your house. I’m sure the scale would break (as well as your leg), even if you were 90 pounds. Now imagine if you weighed was as much as several floors of a concrete building, with all of it’s contents still inside.
    With the added fact that it’s possible the fire burned hotter than 1100 degrees F, we’re looking at maybe 40% strength. While bent, it’s strength diminishes to less than 20%, and dropping (because the steel bends further and further). Suddenly the floor (or the roof) above it smashes down on the steel. The sudden weight (the roof just “jumped” onto the “scale”) would in fact be enough to cause the steel to finally snap (because trust me, the force of one roof dropping down 15-20ft would be huge).
    *sigh*.. i hate getting into arguments.. i always end up writing so much
  57. As much as I disagree with the war in Iraq, and basically ANYTHING the Bush administration has done, I would be a little wary to impeach Bush myself. Not because i think he doesn’t deserve it; quite the contrary, i believe he deserves it more than any of the other presidents, but rather because I am afraid to put Dick Cheney in power.
    Comment by Adam — March 31, 2007 @ 10:14 pm
  58. This is redundant and laughable. Rosie O’Donnel the queen of fat lesbians everywhere is trying to lecture the conservatives of the United States how horrible we are right now, and how the rest of the world portrays us as big bully. Well, did the rest of the world get attacked in their LARGEST city!? Iraq is indeed a mistake. All of America pretty much knows it, but two wrongs wont turn a right. We have to stay in Iraq or we’ll just screw ourselves down the road. And forget the rest of the world. This is a rough time, and we have to deal with it. You think France is going to do anything if another Hitler comes along? We have an obligation to make sure these dictator countries do not get nuclear weapons–Like it or not.
  59. Adam:
    The most recent impeachment resolution introduced by McKinney included Bush, Cheney, and Rice. Although, even if we only initially pursue Bush, initiating the impeachment process will lead to an investigation that will implicate lots of people in the Bush administration who are guilty of committing crimes, including Cheney.
    As a popular movement, we believe that the strategy of going after both of them right off the bat would bring nay-sayers to the table asking for the evidence against Cheney. Not that there isn’t evidence, but the evidence is less known, and more of it is hidden. This would only make our case less clear, and cause less people to be approving of it. More people agree about the need to impeach Bush, than about the need to impeach both of them. And, since the evidence against Cheney would come out in any trial against Bush, we find it strategically unnecessary to include him initially.
    In addition, no matter who we get to replace Bush, we’ll be showing those in power that anyone who breaks the law will be held accountable.
  60. jp,
    sorry for all your *sigh*’ing. if you indeed are an engineer you will most likely know that even in the best case scenario, floors dropping down upon floors in the “pancake theory” scenario would never collapse the WTC buildings at freefall speed. look at the videos and note that the twin towers fell at essentially freefall speed. a collapse like the “pancake theory” could never happen like this. floors dropping upon floors in a collapse would add measures of resistence that would make a freefall speed collapse highly improbable.
    please note that the pancake theory is only the latest in a string of gov’t approved theories for the collapse of the twin towers. we’ll get a new one this year, i’m sure of it.
    any other apologists like jp out there who want to use popular mechanics (owned by hearst corporation, advertisers include boeing, general dynamics, lockheed, etc.) as the keeper of the truth?
  71. You guys are all nuts. Use a little logical and critical thinking, possibly read a book and you will see that there are multiple reasons Bush should be impeached. Most importantly, he knowingly lied to congress (claim that Niger provided enriched uranium to Iraq) to help his case on the war. He also said it in his State of the Union. Lying to congress is a major felony. While it is easy for people who disagree with Rosie to simply call her childish names like fat ass, it does not take away from the fact that she is most likely right, and Bush/Cheney should both be impeached. Luckily for them as we are seeing now they have many fall guys. The GOP heads will continue to roll, but it will not be that of Bush or Cheney.
  78. In response to Rosie’s question of what do you have to do to get impeached? Violating the oath of office (to defend the constitution) PA and MCA both clearly signed violations, Treason (signing SPP document without the authority of congress or the people), Lying to Congress with respect to WMD’s, New Orleans disaster ignored (dereliction of duty), complicity in 911 with other rogue elements, the MIC, and criminals in the government (high crimes and misdemeanors). Invading and aggressions on a foreign country (Iran) without a declaration of war from Congress. Genocide (Iraq). That’s just for starters with more to come I’m sure. After all that they will probably still name a library after him with third grade books so he doesn’t get left behind.
  83. It kills me to hear people go on and on about how Clinton lied under oath; and wasn’t faithful to his wife. Granted, on this point his actions were wrong. But I argue he was still an effective leader. Kennedy, FDR, and countless other leaders all over the world have done far worse. Hell, FDR had a flat out mistress for many years. The only difference is the media didn’t focus or print about this type of thing. In affect, it was almost accepted at the time. I don’t hear anyone going on about how Kennedy and FDR were horrible leaders that should have been impeached. Most people would have a hard time admitting infidelity to their friends and neighbors. I wonder how many of you hypocrites would admit admitting infidelity to the entire planet. Clinton is human; just like everybody else.
    I wonder if some of the people on the comment thread really believe Bush never lied under oath. Do you really think he didn’t realize the Iraq didn’t have weapons of mass destruction? If so, you’re kidding yourself. Call me dense, but I’d rather have a wise, effective leader who cheated; than an unwise, stubborn, faithful leader whose driving this country into the ground. Let’s not even start talking about how the U.S is currently viewed across the planet. Compassionate conservatism Bush says; yeah, right.
Bush's Defense
Arguments Against Bush Impeachment...
• If we impeach Bush, we’ll get President Cheney!
The first impeachment resolution introduced by McKinney included Bush, Cheney, and Rice. Although, even if we only initially pursue Bush, initiating the impeachment process will lead to an investigation that will implicate lots of people in the Bush administration who are guilty of committing crimes, including Cheney.
No matter who we get to replace Bush, we’ll be showing those in power that anyone who breaks the law will be held accountable.
• Promoting impeachment will seem too “extreme.”
Demanding that crimes be investigated is NOT extreme. Some previous impeachment attempts were considered extreme because they were pursued for actions that didn't rise to the level of a Constitutional crisis, which is what the impeachment tool is meant to be used for. Nixon's impeachment, however, was bipartisan.
  • We should wait to impeach...
Wait to impeach? We've waited 3 or more years too long already. We had enough evidence to impeach years ago. Remember, an impeachment only means you have enough evidence to warrant a trial, just like an indictment. Our congress people didn't take an oath to bipartisanship. They took an oath to the Constitution. Besides which, our troops, Iraqi civilians, and our own civil liberties are all waiting for this.
• Before we impeach, we should get some legislation passed...
And with unconstitutional Presidential Signing Statements, veto power, and the power of "Commander in Chief" at his disposal, how do you think Congress is going to get anything accomplished without first impeaching Bush?
If your tire blows while you're driving, do you stop to fix it? Or do you continue driving on your rim because to stop would take too much time?
• It hurts the democracy to go through a presidential impeachment. And Bush is a lame duck anyway.
Holding government officials accountable for their actions strengthens our democracy. Letting lawlessness stand weakens it.
Sometimes reprimanding a child (president) doesn't make the family (Washington) a happy place. But you still have to do it so the child and his siblings (future presidents) learn about accountability. Impeachment is horribly UNDERUSED, which is part of why there's so much corruption at the top. Politicians must learn to fear it. People think things are better because we improved the make-up of our law-making body, Congress. But Bush is BREAKING LAWS. So, it doesn't matter how many laws Congress passes if they don't serve their OVERSIGHT duties as well by impeaching. They swore to defend the Constitution. What are laws without enforcement?
Besides, considering Bush's track-record of breaking laws, he can still do a lot of damage. Our troops, Iran, and our Supreme Court are all endangered so long as he remains in office. Waiting until Bush is out of office will leave us complicit in any further crimes he commits. The Union of Concerned Scientists has estimated that the death toll from a "tactical" nuclear weapon of the kind Bush is contemplating using in Iran would be at minimum 3 million men, women, and children. The path of death would stretch across country boundaries into India.
Perhaps worst of all, we set a terrible precedent by allowing Bush to stay in office after he's broken so many laws. Impeachment will stop future presidents from using Bush's actions as justification for even more lawbreaking and erosion of civil liberties.
• I'm a Democrat/
Republican. If we support impeachment it will lower the chances of my party winning in 2008.
So, your party would rather win elections than do what's right for the country? I hope you're wrong. I also hope the public is willing to throw additional support to any party that holds our elected officials accountable for their actions. This has been historically true with every single impeachment effort launched. And this impeachment effort would begin with majority support (unlike most past impeachments including Nixon).
• Impeachment will never happen. Congress members will block it.
Well, all we need is a majority of support in the House. And 2/3rds vote in the Senate to remove Bush from office will happen once the evidence gets aired on the floor of the House, and subsequently the national media outlets. The political pressure will become too great.
Today's impossibility is tomorrow's reality. Congress members will realize that tying their political future to Bush reduces their chances of getting elected. Remember, one way or another, Bush is gone by 2009— but members of Congress may retain their offices beyond that date. Bush's poll numbers are extremely low, and most Americans support impeachment. This is a bipartisan movement. This means that if we make the pressure unbearable for Members of Congress, they'll turn on him to keep their own seats (like they did with Nixon). It's already starting to happen. While many Members of Congress have behaved unethically in the last few years, it's important to understand that this is related to their warped view of what's in their self-interest. Let's wake them up to their true self-interest (impeaching the president), by showing them our support for impeachment.
And even if we only impeach, and the Senate fails to do their duty and remove him from office, it will only implicate the Senators who fail to do their sworn Constitutional duty.
• But Speaker of the House Pelosi said that Impeachment was "off the table."
Pelosi most likely said this to remove any appearance of conflict-of-interest that would arise if she were thrust into the presidency as a result of the coming impeachment. What we need to do is to pressure Pelosi not to interfere with impeachment maneuverings within her party. Sending her Do-It-Yourself impeachments legitimizes her when she joins the impeachment movement in the future.
