I think the commentators are mistaken when they frame impeachment as a waste of time and money given the approximately 200 days left of President Bush’s term. It is possible for the Bush administration to attack another country before they leave office and create larger problems (see the house floor speech by Ron Paul http://www.freewebs.com/impeachmentaction/inthenews.htm ). While going to war with another country is certainly not an impeachable offense when undertaken through the proper channels, Bush does not have a strong record for accomplishing his will within the rules and laws of the Constitution. Moreover, impeachment done now, with nonpartisan motivation (the only true motivation should be the support of the Constitution), can help ensure that future presidents are more tightly bound by the rule of law. If we choose to let all of the President’s and the Vice President’s offenses slide, then we are showing all future leaders that if it is inconvenient we will not impeach.
