Elliot Hughes recounts allegations of torture while being detained in Ramsey County Jail. Hughes was detained during an RNC08 protest after reportedly colliding with a police bicycle on accident. He was sent to Regions Hospital for treatment and later released without charges. We are actively investigating these claims. Stay tuned for more.

Here is the video of Elliot Hughes accidental bicycle collision with a cop. It is readily apparent that the officer’s decision to ride as a team right through the middle of the crowd was what initiated the collision. Mr. Hughes was run into from behind and/or knocked to the curb by an officer.

  1. Huh…looks like Ramsey County residents are going to be paying more taxes for this sheriff’s tactics.

    Is any group organizing at the county level, nationwide, to address the issues of systematic and organized harassment? The National Sheriff’s Association meets in DC on January 28 – 31, 2009 at the JW Marriott Hotel. This might be an appropriate venue for folks interested in starting to remedy the situation to try to organize a panel and/or speakers so that sheriffs arounhd the country could be more informed about the potential consequences to their citizens (and their ability to hold their jobs) should they choose to adopt these kinds of tactics.

    This kind of education effort has to happen at the county level (not city) because sheriff’s are responsible for disaster / crisis operations in their jurisdiction, (superceding local and federal authority).

  2. I’m so, so ashamed. But doing nothing has gotten me here. Waiting for others has gotten me here. Now, my representatives phone numbers are on speed dial, their email addresses and those of my local media outlets are grouped and ready with a click. I’ve managed to get myself on the polling call list. I show up in person to listen and to be heard when I can. I was raised in a military family, on bases saluting the flag all of my life, I cannot stand how I feel about my country now and I’m going to do something about it.
