Very nice song writing Tom. Thanks for using your skills to draw attention to such critical issues.
Keep it up.
Dear Zee,
I am the composer/singer of “Brick” and I am a brick. In my day job, (that I plan to keep), I rely on clinical knowledge gained as an Infantry Medic (6 years) and through 20 years of Nursing to support the improvement of healthcare quality in VA and DoD hospitals across America. I support my fellow Veterans and Soldiers each day. The singer/songwriter “thing” is simply a hobby and based on your input, it’s a darned good thing I have a day job.
The “brick” represents both the truth and a hat tip to the true patriots that seek to uphold our constitution. I’m also a fan of Pink Floyd.
Thank you for setting me straight about music.
Sincerely,
Tom
Zee: If Bush’s policies were materialized into a metaphoircal window, what reasonable person wouldn’t throw a brick (impeachment activist) through it. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to explain metaphore, but there you go. It’s not about literally throwing a brick through any particular window, but metaphorically bringing down Bush’s policies.
If I have to choose between being the thorn in the side of this administration by breaking a few metaphorical windows, and being a good German, I choose the brick.
“The most you could hope for is to recognize someone else’s GOOD idea/s.”
And to think I was trying to be positive here!
“In fact, it sounds like you will.” Real nice. Looks like the relieved silence means others are glad I gave YOU some perspective. Too bad you’re projecting your own violence on me because you don’t like what you’re hearing.
A. Whoever this “composer/singer” is should not quit their day job, as it’s apparent this DUDE is NEITHER. And, no, thanks…you get some perspective. I’ve got plenty. We’re all more than aware of Bush’s crimes, and SOME of us have been fighting the INEVITABLE since BEFORE he stole office. But if we can’t sing, we don’t try fighting with SONG. Get it?
And you’re asking people to “be a brick.” My comments stand. Besides the BAD LYRICS and BAD SINGING, it’s a BAD IDEA to be a brick thrown through a window. It’s cowardly and a position of weakness, not empowerment. Don’t go back to the drawing board…stay away from it. The most you could hope for is to recognize someone else’s GOOD idea/s.
Jodin is a brick. I love this video.
A brick can be seen as a metaphor- remember the famous “another brick in the wall” song.
A brick is something solid, foundational material for building structures.
In this video- truth is the real brick. It is powerful, and there are many truths. How else to shatter the constucted illusion that this government is legitimate and serving the country, the world.
We need every voice, every truth, all the courage that we can muster to challenge the paradigm of fear, terror, hatred. In the process we discover who we are, what we are made of, and how to cooperate for the benefit of all.
I am a brick, too.
Dude, get some perspective. You’re distracted from what’s important about this song. Bush’s crimes, and those fighting against his autrocities. You can turn this into a distraction about not understanding metaphore and thinking that this video is actually calling for people to turn violent. In fact, it sounds like you will. It’s about how people are standing up to his crimes, and how those people should be honored.
FYI: I’m not the composer/singer.
Sorry, Jodin, but don’t give up the day job. I managed to make it to the chorus, which took some doing, because I wanted to see how the brick metaphor was used. I don’t think of a “brick through your window” as any kind of positive image…not even as civil disobedience. Bricks thrown through windows are the opposite of empowering. It’s a cowardly act. There’s not much worth salvaging from the rest of the cliches, either.
I am a brick.
