Greetings…
I mailed eighty-five members of the House Of Representatives DIY impeachment petitions for both Bush and Cheney plus a cover letter and a personal note on July 26. I got my first response on Saturday, August 4. It was a refusal from Rosa L. DeLauro from Connecticut to my request for representation. Since she doesn’t take email from anyone who is not her constituent, I mailed her the following letter:

Re: Impeachment
Dear Honorable Rosa L. DeLauro:
My name is Israel Davis. I recently sent you a letter requesting that you represent me in the House Of Representatives by presenting petitions for impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. I sent a separate petition for each and a cover letter stating the rules and precedent that would permit such an action. I sent a total of eighty-five requests to members in an attempt to get someone to represent me. I received a response from you almost immediately; in fact, yours was the first to arrive in my mailbox. Thank you for getting back to me in such a timely fashion.
Unfortunately, your reply was not what I was expecting. You stated “As much as I would like to assist you, there is a long-standing agreement among Members of Congress that we will handle matters only for our own constituents, and will refer others to their own representatives.†I have contacted my own representative (on the same day I contacted you) in regard to this matter, and despite the proximity, I have not yet received a reply.
Not to be rude, but does your reply mean that in matters of such national import, you will allow “a long-standing agreement among Members of Congress†to keep you from doing your duty as a citizen of the United States and an elected representative? Even if my “own representative†doesn’t represent me?
Again, not to be impolite or unmannerly, but given the gravity of my request concerning the future of the United States, that seems like a pretty lame excuse. In excess of fifty percent of the populace has indicated in polls they support impeachment. I’m sure you know this already. Can we afford to wait until Bush and Cheney get us into a mess we can’t get out of? What needs to be done, needs to be done, no matter who does it. Hopefully, you will reconsider.
I would like to hear from you again soon. Thank you for your dedicated service and concern for us all.
Sincerely,
Israel Davis

Her refusal response was so much BS. The people in Washington are waiting to see which way the wind blows. The only thing that will get them off their well-paid and in some cases corporate-owned corrupt butts is to continue to write, e-mail, call, and contact them as often as possible. Write your local newspaper (your congress people read the letters, yes, yes, they do). The internet is powerful; look for places to express your opinion, along with facts to back it up. If you have friends who are on the fence, do whatever you can to get them off. Inform them of what is really going on while they are watching CNN. Give them The World Can’t Wait and Impeach For Peace URLs, and tell them about the DIY impeachment petitions. Shucky-darn, if you have to, write a letter for them, whatever it takes. Join a political action group. Participate in protests. It takes money to move mountains, so send money if you can – five, ten, twenty dollars from thousands of people adds up. With only seventeen months left in Bush and Cheney’s term of office, we’ve got to get this done immediately if not sooner. Bush and Cheney and the rest are counting on the fact that they are short termers to keep people from acting.
I don’t know if it will do any good, but I will continue to respond to anyone who responds to me. I would suggest that others do the same.
In my opinion –
If you do write to politicians, please remember to be polite, clear, concise, and to the point. If people resort to name calling and emotional diatribes, all it does is give the recipient a reason to ignore the letter, thereby negating the purpose. Of course, what you write and how you write it is up to you. Who the devil am I to be telling people how to do it? Just a thought from an old man.
Live long and prosper!
Israel Davis
Agreed. Now isn’t the time for fear. Fear is how we are losing this country. It’s time to be brave. I signed and I’m proud. To die for the liberation of the Republic would be an honor.
Denny,
Are you going to make your decisions based upon fear or upon your personal integrity
I have no doubt that I am on any and every list they have for dissenters and critics.
I consider it a privilege.
Bring it on, fascist motherf****rs!!!

Denny, you and 200,000 other citizens who have already done it.
