WITHOUT JUSTICE THE PRESIDENCY ISN’T WORTH WINNING

AN OPEN LETTER TO REPRESENTATIVE AND CANDIDATE DENNIS KUCINICH
by Daniel Fearn – submitted directly to IFP

Candidate Kucinich,

Former President of the United States, John Quincy Adams, was returned to the U.S. Congress by his neighbors. While a Representative of the People he conducted a lonely parliamentary campaign against those who would defy the U.S. Constitution. Adams didn’t break the law in his effort to overturn the gag rules enacted prevent the exercise of the right to petition guaranteed by the First Amendment. No, Adams used the Law and his wits to mock the slavocracy every chance he had. Eventually, he won his battle in the House of Representatives. Our Constitution functions to this day thanks to Adams’ perseverance and the power of the aspirations that form the foundation of our country’s founding documents.

I suggest you should rely confidently on the rightness and the power of the conviction that all men are created equal and that no man is above the law. George W. Bush must be impeached for all our sakes. Richard B. Cheney must be impeached also. Other supporters of our ‘would be’ Unitary Executive need to be investigated and impeached or indicted. Justice must be done and the Constitution protected.

Unfortunately, impeachment must be done in the House of Representatives. That means you or one or more of your fellows must do it. I can not. The People can not. We must rely on people like you. Do not be daunted by the task. Initiate the impeachment process.

Submit an impeachment resolution on the floor of the House of Representatives everyday if you must. George Bush and his supporters have broken more than enough laws to provide material. Force your colleagues and this nation to face the facts. Even if you must place before the House a separate instance of Bush’s criminal behavior everyday until January 20, 2009.

Abu Ghraib by itself provides more than enough reason to impeach. Every single instance of torture committed can and should be laid at Bush’s door. The crimes committed by Pvt. Lynndie England alone justify this action. They also provide the instances by which you can shame the House into action. Pvt. England was punished, George Bush must be also.

If you were to bring a different criminal act committed by Bush himself or under his direction, assuredly even our debased Fourth Estate would pay attention. It is hard for me to imagine even Fox News not gleefully keeping tally…30 days without impeachment…31 days without impeachment…32 days without impeachment. The higher the count the more obvious the villainy and the less easy it will be to ignore.

Are you willing to be our John Quincy Adams? Will you initiate impeachment? Will you support, defend and preserve our Constitution? You are willing to be our President. Let me warn you…without impeachment, the Presidency, even if you won it; would not be worth having.

Semper pacificus,

Daniel I. Fearn
