Rep. Danny Davis to Constituents: Make Me Impeach Bush

by Dave Lindorff, opednews.com

Congressman Danny Davis (D-IL), says that he firmly believes that President George Bush has committed serious impeachable crimes and abuses of power, but says that “at this time” he supports a decision by the House Democratic Caucus to put impeachment aside in the interest of helping to elect a Democratic Congress and a Democratic president in 2008.

Although in late 2005, Rep. Davis was an enthusiastic co-sponsor of a bill by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) that called for an investigation into possible impeachable acts by the president, Davis now says, “The Democratic Caucus has decided that impeachment would not be in the best interests of the country and I’m following that decision.”

At the same time, Rep. Davis, a former Chicago alderman, declares that his basic instinct is to follow the wishes of his constituents. “When I got elected to city council, I set up what I called the 29th Ward People’s Assembly. My pledge then was that on any issue of public policy, I would follow their position. If the group decided on a direction, I had to take it. And that approach has not changed.”  Davis insists that if the people of his congressional district were to make it clear, through a letter-writing campaign or a petition campaign or some other means, that they felt impeachment were a priority for them, he would feel bound to act on their views.

  1. “The Democratic Caucus has decided” (Pelosi decided!)
…. so 39 House members WHO WERE ELECTED BECAUSE they
    co-sponsored the Conyers Bill reniged.

Now we have a “Decider” in the White House
and a “Decider” in Congress… So why do we need to
pay all those congressmen if nobody’s going to
    REPRESENT THE PEOPLE???

here’s a List of the TURNCOATS. If you are in their district, you should call their home office and let them have an earful of what ‘We, The people’ think about that!

    Isn’t that ‘election-by-fraud’???

  2. Impeach,indict,convict,execute.Impeach,indict,convict,execute.And not just chimpy but all of them[Cheney,Rice,Gonzales etc, etc.]and if you do not impeach these thugs you can kiss the land of oppurtunity goodbye.

  3. I’m not a Chicago resident, so I don’t know if my voice is
going to be heard very loudly by Davis, but let me just
encourage everyone in the 29th to get behind this. The
only way Bush will be impeached is if we, the people, MAKE it
happen. I’m very grateful that Davis is willing to be
“convinced” by his constituents to begin the long, arduous
process of saving this country from tyranny.

  4. The number of Representatives open to hearing from their constituents whether they want impeachment grows every day.

The era of intimidation and threats of reprisal from these criminals is passing.

The time for impeachment, removal from office and prosecution of them as war criminals is now!

  5. Come on TwentyNinth Ward! This is where the Impeachment action is!
Listen to what Danny Davis saying: We all know he’s impeachable and we want to impeach, we can see that it’s not politically feasable and on the national level, would be a distraction at this time, that he can move it forward, when the window opens, if he has organized backing behind him (petitions, etc).
This is an open invitation to participate in democracy, a sitting representative doing his job, Step up 29th, you’ve got a good one!
This is the perfect grassroots organizing tool.
