Madison Must End The U. S. Policies of Torture and Illegal War of Aggression. Democrats In Congress Think Torture and Loss of Life Is Okay If It Helps Them Win Big In 2008.
The Impeachment Coalition of Dane County and Impeachforpeace.org Madison sponsor street theatre to protest torture
On Wednesday, July 25, between 11:00am and 1:00pm, concerned citizens organized by The Impeachment Coalition of Dane County and Impeachforpeace.org of Wisconsin will gather in front of the Capitol at 728 State Street. Demonstrators will make a powerful visual statement that will bring home the ongoing, heinous acts of torture inflicted on thousands of human beings throughout the world in the name of Americans.
Dressed in the Guantanamo standard of orange jumpsuits, black hoods and chains, demonstrators will be subjected to acts of “torture” by “soldiers” in fatigues. The demonstrators will call for basic human rights, the right of Habeas Corpus, and the protections of the Geneva Conventions.
For the last day, of this three day event, using unforgettable images, the demonstrators hope to prompt the hundreds of Madisonians walking on the Capitol Square during the lunch hour to remember that the Bush Administration is defying U.S. and international laws against torture, disregarding and subverting the Constitution and our Bill of Rights, and showing contempt for human rights and the will of the American people. Demonstrators also hope to remind observers that the majority of Americans support impeachment and accountability for these crimes.
“All elected officials who do not honor their oaths “˜to support and/or defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic’ will be publicized and held accountable,” stated Natalie Morrison, Founder of ImpeachForPeace.org Madison. “If they wish to be complicit in these crimes, we do not want them to work for us.
We will be handing out fliers instructing people on how they can demand impeachment and to get as many petition signatures as possible calling for the City Council and the Dane County Board to pass a resolution for impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney to put pressure on Representative Tammy Baldwin to sign on to H Res. 333 to commence impeachment investigations against Vice President Cheney; to put pressure on the state assembly and the state senate members to sign on to Representative Frank Boyle’s joint resolution to commence an impeachment investigation against President Bush; to present to the public each municipal body’s decision on impeachment.
