Real Americans Don’t Torture, Bush and Cheney Do – And They Must Be Impeached!
Submitted by Chip
Impeachment Coalition of Dane County, Wisconsin and the Impeachforpeace.org of WI staged three days of street theatre on the UW-Madison Library Mall dramatizing the torture of prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay and other rendition sites operated around the world by the Bush administration.
Theater organizer Natalie Morrison said, “We made a powerful visual statement that brought home the heinous acts of torture inflicted on thousands of human beings in our name. We raised the specter of torture in the minds of hundreds of Madisonians walking through campus during the lunch hour through images they cannot forget.”
Dressed in the Guantanamo standard of orange jumpsuits, black hoods and chains, prisoners were be guarded by “soldiers” in fatigues. Morrison stated, “Prisoners cried out for basic human rights, the rights of habeas corpus, the protections of the Geneva Conventions and moaned in pain and fear.” She continued, “We seek to provoke action to stop these crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
Impeachment resolutions are pending before the local officials of both Dane County and the City of Madison.
