Rep. Earl Blumenauer said that while he remains “unalterably opposed” to the Bush administration, there aren’t enough votes in Congress to make impeachment a viable option.
“If I thought for one minute that simply trying to impeach George Bush would change our nation’s course, I would do it in a heartbeat, even if it was a long shot,” Blumenauer wrote in a statement on his Web site Friday. “But impeachment is not going to happen at this point. We may have a Democratic majority in Congress, but we still don’t have a progressive majority. Like it or not, it all comes down to the numbers – and right now, the numbers are simply not there.”
