GOP blocks Dem-led motion to kill impeachment resolution; measure sent to House Judiciary

Jason Rhyne, Raw Story

…In an unexpected move, House Republicans on Tuesday voted against a measure to kill an impeachment resolution introduced against Vice President Dick Cheney by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH).

A motion to table, which would have ended debate on the resolution, had been brought by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) soon after Rep. Kucinich took to the floor to read from his proposed articles of impeachment.

“Impeachment is not on the agenda,” Rep. Hoyer had told Fox News earlier on Tuesday.”We have some major priorities. We need to focus on those.”

Although the roll call vote had initially appeared to favor Hoyer’s motion, Republicans — who had at first voted in with the majority leader — began to switch their votes.

  1. Until this toxic, and not so lame duck, president and his administration are held accountable for the myriad of crimes against the citizens of Iraq and the citizens of their own United States, will we, as a nation and as a people, ever be able to crawl out from under the rock of ignorance, arrogance and fear. Until this, not so lame duck president, is impeached and his actions revealed to the nation and the world, will America ever be able to become one with the world again. Until this, not so lame duck president, is brought to justice, will any forward motion with regards to some of the most crucial events in our human history be possible: the end of the Iraq war, the thwarting of an impending Iran war…there are three aircraft carriers in the gulf as we speak for crying out loud!…a call to arms regarding the global climate crisis, the reversal of a 9 trillion dollar debt, the end of tax cuts for the rich, taking the treasure used for war and destruction and investing it in peace and construction: the modernization of our cities, universal healthcare and education, reconnecting with our allies and doing the kind of business in the world that might make us, again, that beacon of hope and moral courage that some, in times past, once stood for! Let us be an example to our friends and especially, to our enemies. Isn’t this the example that we would want to set for our own children? I beg House Judiciary Chairman, John Conyers to begin impeachment proceedings on this not so lame duck president. Rid our nation and this planet of this very arrogant, incompetent and dangerous man! I want to be able to travel the world again and not have to apologize for my nation ever again! Thank you!

  2. This theft reported by the newsagency at: http://www.worldreports.org is what is keeping our country broke.

This money stolen by “our supposed leaders” was for our Country and for US. It was supposed to be used to pay off our National Debt, Rebuild our country’s infra structure, Abolish the Federal Reserve Banking System, and the IRS.

  3. This impeachment is absolutely necessary and the only hope for the future of our democracy. We have so many ways in which we need to move foreward — public campaign financing, revisiting the necessity of the electoral college, run-off voting, security of our votes — that moving backward, as this administration has done, is criminal. Backward in history to the time of tyrant kings, before habeas corpus! Dungeons and torture; my Christian friends, face what has been done in your name! And help us clean up this mess. Write the judiciary committee members of the House of Reps. Impeachment because of: lying us into war, outing a CI Agent and lying to cover it, war profiteering, spying on US! (not the enemy), many more. Nixon’s crimes were nothing to these.

AND, nothing can get through this insane man’s vetos, anyway. He does not want democracy.
