In an email sent to his constituents today, Rep. Robert Wexler is taking the next step to getting Vice President Cheney to answer for his actions. Here are excerpts from his letter:
As a person who supports holding this Administration accountable for their deceptive actions, you may be interested to know about the recent votes in the House regarding H.Res. 333, “Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.” […] I voted against the motion to table debate on H.Res. 333. Along with only 85 other Democrats, I opposed tabling the measure and supported beginning immediate debate and a vote on the Cheney impeachment resolution. The vote on tabling the Kucinich resolution was rejected, and the House subsequently voted to refer the matter to the Judiciary Committee. […] The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we bring begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; […] I am hopeful that the Judiciary Committee will expeditiously begin an investigation of this matter. |
Finally, someone with the guts to do the right thing, not the easy thing or the politically expedient thing. Impeachment is not about what is easy or politically practical. It is about protecting our DEMOCRACY against abuses that will distroy it from within. You would think that that would be the primary job and concern of everyone in congress. Sadly it is not. I see cowardess on both sides of the isle. There are enough Republican lemings that will support this administration even if they grew horns and spit fire and there are Democrats that are so frightened that they believe that to confront them is to risk an overthrow of the government by these people. I submit, anyone without the moral clarity or guts to fight for our constitution does not deserve to hold office and WE THE PEOPLE will remember in the next election who stood and fought and who ran and hid.
