I just got off the phone with Betty Hall. She is the 14-term State of N.H. representative who has introduced to the state house HR 24 to impeach Bush and Cheney. The public Hearing for the resolution is next Tuesday Feb. 19th (the day after President’s day).
She is joining the Code Pink fast.
She is 87 years old and refuses to eat again until Conyers begins impeachment proceedings. She told me “I’ve had a good life. I can’t think of any better way to end it.”
Now, before you think I am heartless by “encouraging” this act by announcing it, I know Betty. When she decides to do something, there is no changing her mind – she’s going to do it. She will not eat until impeachment proceedings begin in earnest. We owe it to her to make this worth her while. It’s time to pull out ALL the stops and get Conyer’s ass into gear! We cannot let this clear-headed, heroic woman sacrifice herself.

So, when will we start the movement to impeach Obama? Personally we can rid this country of all career politicians by out vote. The problem is that people just don’t care.
For those doubters out there… at least she’s doing her part. Doubting won’t cause change.

As a Canadian (I know, shocking!) Americans like her always aspire me to fight for the rights of our fellow human beings, especially in my country where it’s inching closer and closer to a police state. Wish Canadians were patriotic as she is!

Every petition and movement is focused on Cheney’s impeachment. That is the only push going on right now.

This is a horrible idea. Even if it is successful, we’ll just end up with Cheney. That might be worse, and that’s saying a lot.
We can only hope she dies of starvation soon, and removes from the populace a waste of matter.
This won’t make a difference. We need to be prepared to impeach the NEXT president. If there is one. Unless it’s Ron Paul, whoever makes it in next will carry the torch for Bush.

Impeach Bush? For what? He’ll be out in one year. Come on. If Conyers is behind it, it’s because he wants to be the dictator instead of Bush. He’s more anti-freedom than Bush. Tell Betty to stay alive, and vote for Ron Paul. The only wasted vote is one in which we don’t believe. He’s the only candidate who will end the war.Mary

That there are 87 year olds willing to take positive action while the 30 year olds are busy with WoW and SL says a lot. It says even more about how deep this sh*t is that none of our “duly-elected” national representatives have shown half the fortitude of this woman.
Interesting to note that the 30%ers posting on here would say the same thing about Patrick Henry in saying:
“Give me liberty or give me death”.
How deeply have they all been entranced by the NeoCon, Rovian spin machine to call a true patriot and hero such as Ms. Hall “an idiot”.

On June 22, 2006, the Congress modified the Insurrection Act as part of the 2007 Defense Appropriations Bill. Section 1076 of the new law changes Sec. 333 of the “Insurrection Act,” and widens the President’s ability to deploy troops within the United States to enforce the laws. Under this act, the President may also deploy troops as a police force during a natural disaster, epidemic, serious public health emergency, terrorist attack, or other condition, when the President determines that the authorities of the state are incapable of maintaining public order.
in short, bush can stay in office if he declares a natural disaster and stay until it is over.
the truth of it is, no one is going to care this old woman is starving herself. congress would probably rather her die than start an impeachment process that will inadvertently end the war that so many of them have profited off.

Maybe I’m just cynical, but with the laws as they are now, Bush has the authority to label her a fasting terrorist. This would allow detaining her without recourse, move her to Gitmo, force food down, and call her unpatriotic at the same time.
Kudos to you for standing for something. Most Americans will not care, unfortunately.
sorry, I want to see Bush & Cheney impeached too, but this is nuts. even if this woman sacrifices herself for this cause, it is unlikely to make a difference. hopefully she will find another way to try to accomplish her goals.

This is awesome! She is 87 though, not quite the same as a 30-year-old pulling this stuff. I plan to donate my own body to drug experimentation at that age. It would be cool if we could organize suicide pacts with many senior citizens to achieve political justice all over the place.
