Please Join Senator Amy Klobuchar and our Democratic Congressional Delegation for a Special Luncheon featuring (wait for it)
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (roar of the crowd – sound of cash being stuffed into campaign war chest)
That’s how I imagine the Klobucar, Walz, Pelosi fundraiser in Minneapolis was scripted. I don’t know for sure because I don’t make a habit of attending “by invitation only” events that I pay for. Besides, what could one expect from an event billed as “Keeping Our Majority”. Keeping our majority? Nancy have you got the Congressional Dems so rope-a-doped that you’ve abandoned all hope of EXTENDING OUR MAJORITY? First no impeachment and now no majority. Not aiming very high, Nancy. Not much to be hopeful about. I’m glad I didn’t fork out $2,300 to sit with Pelosi. Luckily, someone was there to show Pelosi & Co. the small “d” democracy isn’t dead quite yet.
Well…Ms. Pelosi sure can bring in the big names ~ today was a plethora of DFL luminaries…Walter Mondale, Amy Klobuchar, Keith Ellison, Jim Oberstar, Tim Walz, Speaker of the MN house, Mark Dayton, Brian Melendez, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer…on and on the list of folks went. I was the photographer’s assistant, so my official duties included lugging around a bag full of lenses. My attire was subtle ~ sort of ~ just sported a small impeach cheney first button. No guatanamo suit. There wasn’t too much of real excitement that happened during the event…speech after speech. A 20 minute talk by Nancy where she had the balls to mention defending the Constitution. As in, the Democratic congress was actually doing it. I was on my bike heading home when I heard shouts of “Jennifer” ~ fortunately, I stumbled upon Bruce, Larry and Michael creating a ruckus. Impeach banner flapping. They were perched outside of the garage where they figured (rightly) that Ms. Pelosi would come out of. I wanted to stand outside of the doors to the hotel so that all of the folks coming out would see us to. So we did…honks and thumbs up ensued. Then a cry went up from Larry, the State troopers pulled out of the parking garage, and off Michael and I ran to the corner to hold up the banner. The heavens smiled on us as the light turned red, and Ms. Pelosi had to wait at the corner with us holding out the 8 foot by 8 foot “IMPEACH THEM NOW” banner flapping proudly in the wind. I guess it’s the little things in life…At least for a momentito, impeachment was, um…on the sidewalk. – Jennifer
Just a happy echo to Jennifer’s more detailed report. Her magic worked and a teeny crew of three raggedy old men assembled to do the sign thing. As Jen was about to bike away, we got more intel from her and in the end, by hopping back and forth, we not only signed luminaries leaving by the front door, but rushed to make sure Princess Nancy and her entourage got a good look too. It IS the little things in life. As movement actions go this was very small, but it was also very successful for a rush job with a teeny crew. All the old men got home alive and apparently Jen did too. Even the cops were cool. Think positive thoughts and I’ll see y’all at Paula’s sometime later on May 3 to sprinkle holy champagne on tired activists. Best wishes always. – Michael
Impeach for Peace
Just so you know what you missed. Although, I guess we should consider ourselves lucky. We could’ve had direct access to the Queen for a measly $2.3k. If it had been a GOP Speaker that kind of face time could have cost us our cars, our houses and our children.
