MassLive – Town Meeting here Saturday supported a petition calling for the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump as the Franklin County town became the sixth community in the country to do so, said Amherst lawyer John Bonifaz, who introduced the petition.
Pelham Town Meeting will consider the petition Saturday, and Amherst Town Meeting will consider it at a yet undetermined date. Amherst Town Meeting began last week and continues this month.
The 259th annual Town Meeting opens Wednesday with a plan to hold the meeting three nights a week instead of the customary two. Fourteen nights have been reserved for the meeting.
The petition cites Trump for allegedly violating the Constitution’s emoluments clause, which bars members of government from receiving gifts or money from foreign states. According to the citizen petition, these violations undermine “the integrity of the presidency, corruptly advance the personal wealth of the president and violate the public trust.”
