I think we can get rid of the term “Pedophile” since this doesn’t concern pedophilia. It concerns homosexuality. The age of consent in Washington DC is 16. I doubt that any of the pages were younger than that. I believe that Foley can be charged with “abuse of public office, sexual harrassment, and soliciting for sex, plus a congressional coverup and complicity in his crimes.” Pedophilia isn’t going to work. Sounds nice and ugly, invokes more profound outrage, but it isn’t ever going to be a viable criminal charge against Foley. Our gut reaction and the law not always agree. I think it cheapens our legitimate outrage at his abuse of position and sexual harrassment behavior to continue to use the pedophile designation. What think you?

Point made and taken into consideration.
There is no conclusive evidence of actual physical sexual contact by former Congressman Foley with minors that has come out as of yet. There is, however, ample evidence of sexual harassment and abuse of his position of power by Foley in his sexual advances toward underage pages while they were working in D.C.
I will stand on my position of accusing Foley of the crime of pedophilia. Continued, unwanted sexual advances by an adult toward an adult by an authority figure constitutes sexual harassment and are considered sex crimes. Sexual advances of any kind by an adult toward a minor constitute sexual harassment and are considered sexual crimes. A sex crime of any kind by an adult against a minor falls under the category of pedophilia. Online predators who troll for underage victims online have already committed an act of pedophilia when they engage in a sexual fantasy in a chat room and they can and should be prosecuted for doing so.
Foley has resigned in disgrace, which would be the end of it, except there is considerable evidence of a broad, 5-year long cover-up involving the leadership of the GOP in Washington. That, coupled with the ongoing Abramoff scandal and rubberstamping of every fascist thing ‘resident Bush desires has revealed the national leadership of the GOP to be pervasively corrupt and morally bankrupt.
The fact that former Congressman Foley’s appetite is for boys rather than girls is completely irrelevant, except that he has a track record of voting in opposition to any gay rights issues and hypocritically belongs to the “family values” party – no matter what FAUXNews tries to spin. That his appetite included hitting on minors is what is newsworthy and relevant.
