Christy Hardin Smith liveblogged the House Judiciary Committee hearing to which Harriet Miers flipped the bird.
Rep. Mel Watt (D-NC) is on the subcommittee which currently has the resolution to impeach Cheney, so his opinion is extremely important!
Here’s Smith’s paraphrased summary of Rep. Watt’s remarks:
“Miers not showing up for hearing today is the last straw. During the impeachment proceedings, decided to apply the same standards to Dems and Republicans alike, because we have a Constitutional responsibility to do so. The President has abused his presumptive privilege for executive discussions — his privilege does not extend nearly as far as he says it extends. Watt goes on to discuss all of the disrepect of the rule of law issues of the Bush Administration. I cannot accept the standards that prevailed the last six years of oversight — we have a responsibility to provide oversight, and the President is sticking his thumb in the eye of Congress.”
Rep. Chris Cannon (R-UT) was outraged at Rep. Watt’s outrage and wanted Watt’s remarks stricken from the record — again summarized by Smith:
“Cannon now saying that the remarks are unparliamentary. Watt yields back balance of time — American public knows that we are dealing with an imperial President who feels that he is above the law. Cannon again says that these are unparliamentary words and that Watt has gone beyond the rules of decorum for the House — personal criticism is out of order.”
Cannon’s motion to strike was defeated 7-5.

-A Patriot’s Message- The hammer falls on the Constitution of the United States of America. Our freedom and Democracy, our sovereignty as a nation is coming to an end (2010).
The politically appointed neoconservatives in Justice sneer at Habeas Corpus; Geneva Convention; worker, consumer, investor and environment protection; education; affirmative action; individual rights and “entitlements†like Social Security and health care.
The corporate neo-con conspirators (Establishment) have their own agenda of a New World Order; W.T.O; N.A.F.T.A; N.A.U; immigration; globalization and “free tradeâ€; military seizure of foreign oil fields; employing a private army of mercenaries and propagandist; “dealing†with Afghanistan Opium drug lords harboring Osama Bin Laden and financing Al Qaeda.
The ideal corporate model is “Communism†where individual freedom and democracy are mute. The board of directors rule. The corporate neo-cons hate our regulatory government, Constitution and Individual Rights.

All representatives- We are starting a list. I demand that you reaffirm your allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America and begin impeachment procedure against Bush, Cheney. If you do not, you will be branded a traitor. You’re either with U.S or against U.S.
Impeaching Bush, Cheney would not only save and cleanse the U.S.A but also bring our citizens together. Once again Americans would have pride and respect for their country. Impeachment of these neo-con criminals would vindicate the U.S.A with the rest of the world.
