AUDIO:
General William Odom Says Congress Should Impeach and Stop Funding the Occupation
David Swanson

In a wide-ranging hour-long discussion on live radio, General William Odom said he sees two useful things Congress can do: cease funding the occupation of Iraq, and impeach Bush and Cheney.

General Odom earned a national reputation as an expert on the Soviet Union. In 1977, he was appointed as the military assistant to Zbigniew Brzezinski, the hawkish assistant to the president (Carter) for national security affairs. From 2 November 1981 to 12 May 1985, Odom served as the Army´s Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence. From 1985 to 1988, he served as the director of the National Security Agency, the United States´ largest intelligence agency, under president Ronald Reagan.

Odom was energized during the radio show and continued the discussion off the air, at which point he told me he’d wished to mention that al Qaeda’s websites show a new theme: al Qaeda wants to get the United States to attack Iran. Odom remarked on a situation in which Lieberman, Olmert, and al Qaeda all agree.

In addition to Iraq and Iran, we discussed on the air the question of the NSA’s warrantless spying, not that the NSA couldn’t hear us off the air as well.

  1. Dan,

You are very fortunate, and most of us in America are. What we have in America is worth defending from outside threats as well as domestic threats. We need to stand up against foreign enemies as well as enemies to our Constitution living in the White House.

  2. I have to laugh at this stuff. Boy things are so horrible. I have a decent job, a wife a home….even a dog. I can travel to other countries, I am free to move about. I can say what I want, I can pray to my GOD. That is all because I live in America. God, I love this country.

  3. Roach, You are correct. They will use cruise missles against us or create a deadly virus to kill us all. They are not one bit afraid of us and are as bold as brass. If they try to Impeach Bush, there will be another terror attack like 9/11.

  4. DITTO on Roach’s comment! America as it was ever intended to be is over. We have NO rights. We are merely governmental slaves. We are rapidly being funneled into a fascist government–a very depressing situation indeed. What horrors this country will face is unimaginable. American citizens, for the most part, are asleep at the wheel.

  5. Wow. I am always amazed at the naivety of the people who produce this website. Impeachment of these men is never going to happen. We the People do not exist in any way. They are not afraid of us, and they haven’t been afraid of the people since the beginning. We were blessed with enlightened and compassionate leaders at our beginning, but the lust for power and money conquers all. They do not care about the way we feel, and they never will. The best shot for us is to back men like Goldwater and Ron Paul. If we can end the military-industrial complex, then we will have a chance. Until then, do not hold your breath on the people actually accomplishing anything. They are not scared of us, and they certainly are not scared of the spineless establishment Democrats. Iraq was a show of power to the world and to us. You think won’t use cruise missles against us. Think again.
