From a Hawaiian IfP Friend — First, here are a couple of links to the actual resolution itself and to any action being taken on it.

It is not techinically a bill though. It is what’s called a resolution. This means, among other things, that it is supposed to reflect the sentiment of the people. I will be meeting with both our state rep. Abercrombie and the chair of the Hawaii State JDL committee later today to speak with them both about impeachment. I spoke on this issue at the Progressive Democrats of Hawaii general meeting a couple of nights ago too and they are trying to mobilize members to act. Finally, I wrote a couple of letters to the editor and heard back from one who was just shocked that I was able to get the ball rolling on this. I hope this means they are going to run it in their Sunday paper.
As a concurrent resolution, it only need be introduced once. If it passes the committee then it goes to the floor of the Senate and then the House (I think that is how it goes).
That’s about all I can say for sure right now. I’ll be sure to keep you updated. Just please spread the word for people to write, call, or fax letters to Senator Hee and the others. Out of state or no, I think it will have an impact.

Dear Senator,
If a state legislature forwards a bill or a resolution on impeachment to the Congress of the United States, then the Congress must act. I urge you to hear Senate Concurrent Resolution 83 before the JDL committee. This resolution reflects the sentiment of a growing number of people in the State of Hawaii and in the nation at large, and the people and the sentiment of the people should be heard.
Considering this resolution before your committee can only strengthen our democracy by fostering a much broader national debate on the importance of holding he executive branch of our federal government accountable for its actions and will send a strong message to future Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the United States that they are not above the law. Please do not shy away from making the State of Hawaii politically relevant on the national level and hear SCR 83 before your committee before it’s too late!

I should mention that I feel the process to impeach Bush/Cheney is very slow and I hope it doesn’t finally happen when they are almost out of office. Everyday that they are in office, this country is getting worse.
I sent a letter, along with articles of impeachment to my congressman Xavier Becerra, Nancy Pelosi, and Dennis Kucinich, hoping that someone finally introduces it in the Senate. Its too bad that only one person cannot do it alone. Meanwhile, everytime I see the news and they mention another death of one of our soldiers in Iraq, it makes me cry because it is a senseless war being fought. Bush/Cheney are in a nice, cozy home while our troops are slowly being slaughtered.
