Warning to Congressional Democrats: Don’t Treat Impeachment Advocates Like Idiots

Seattle Times’ David Postman reports:

Sen. Patty Murray and Congressman Jay Inslee are lobbying legislators to cancel this week’s hearing on a resolution calling on Congress to investigate and consider impeaching President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney….”Senator Murray’s message was, ‘I have two words for anyone who wants to impeach the President: Dick Cheney.'”

Senator Murray, do you really think you can dismiss the profound and passionate outrage of a solid and growing majority of Americans with two words?

The impeachment movement has been mobilizing since May 1, 2005, when the Times of London published the Downing Street Memos and proved what we all suspected: that the pre-war intelligence was “fixed” by George Bush and Dick Cheney in a deliberate campaign of lies to sell an illegal and insane war.

Since then, we have written and read hundreds of articles and a shelf full of books, including many by Watergate veterans like Liz Holtzman and John Dean. We have held hundreds of hearings, including several with leading Members of Congress like John Conyers. We have spent countless hours collecting petitions and lobbying our Representatives.

And along the way we have heard every possible argument against impeachment – and answered each one with even more powerful arguments for impeachment.

  1. How sad is it that U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) is so unaware of the impeachment efforts in her own state that she didn’t even know that Vice President Cheney is included in the impeachment Resolution soon to be discussed in the Washington State House of Representatives?

What will it take for our public servants to wake up to the fact that a wave is rising up to wash out every single one of them who refuses to honor their oaths of office?:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

Patriots are rising up to do the job you were elected to carry out. Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way, Senator Murray.

  2. “But then we’ll get Cheney!” is almost a cliché by now. It’s an understandable thought if you haven’t put much thought into the question of impeachment, but it’s so easily refutable that those of us who have spent a lot of time working for impeachment can’t help but get a little frustrated at the frequency with which we hear this. 😛
